Timed to be released to shamelessly exploit the Valentine's Day market, nevertheless, this album is a great introduction to one of the very finest soul singers ever.
Timeless classics such as 'Tired of Being Alone' and 'Take Me to the River' sit alongside Al's own cover versions of 'Light My Fire' and 'How can You Mend a Broken Heart' to show what a great singer he was / is. Buy it, if only to find out that there's more to Al Green than guest appearances in Ally McBeal.

Possibly THE soul album of the 80's. Serious songs dealing with insecurity, heartbreak and at times the more sensual side of relationships this was Vandross' creative peak before his A+R dept. couldn't decide how to market him and his voice became frequently wasted on poorer, less adult music. Although often written off as some sickly 'lurvve' man this album highlighted the insecurity and doubt which is the core to many of the man's best songs. The string arrangements on numerous songs, particularly 'Other Side of the World' are innovative and highlight how musically redundant most of the current 'bump and grind' music is. Although never hitting the heights of the 70's this album proves that 80's soul was not the drum machine wasteland it sometimes ... Read More:

WOW! This album truly impressed me because I was just expecting soppy low quality love ballads because his last studio album was a dud. The best tracks are Goin' outta business She Grown & Sexy Go cop this disc if you like quality R&B, chilled and bubble-gum free

This CD is a collection of classic love songs recorded by Wonder....some of which have been written himself, with a few tracks from other artistes thrown in for good measure, from the haunting self-written Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer, to the brilliant cover version of We Can Work It Out, the only version I actually think is better than the Beatles'!!! The harmonica solo of the title track from the film Alfie is also awesome & the whole CD shows off Wonder's musical, vocal & songwriting talents to their very best advantage. A must in your collection if you're an ardent Stevie Wonder fan!!

Initially released in 1976, Marvin was under pressure to come up with the goods after What's Going On in 1970 and and Let's Get It On in 1973. Not being the most prolific of artists at the time [compared to say Stevie Wonder's prodidgious output in the same period] he finally collaborated with Leon Ware who had already written most of the songs [many in conjunction with Diana Ross's brother T-Boy Ross]for his own Musical Massage album ... released a few years later and also worth checking out.
Unlike the classic What's Going On and Let's Get It On, this album is not a concept album as such and could best be described as a love letter to his young sweetheart of the time - Janis Hunter who he met during the Let's Get It On sessions, whilst still married to ... Read More:

After finding the CD single Dont look the other way in a baragin bin, I fell in love with this track and the b-sides. I read the reviews of the album and I rushed out and bought the album, played it and rushed back to the shop to swap it for something else. I wanted electro pop....I got dull souless music that could have been great. Its the type of album that doesnt know what it wants to be. Pure Rubbish!

Churlish to criticise a superb collection of tracks but, for anyone who is old enough to have bought the 45's the first time around, the versions here are in stereo and are not neccessarily the same recordings as you may remember. Most of the time it doesn't really matter but some tracks (e.g. Didn't It and Sweets For My Sweet) sound somewhat thin.
This comment is aimed at all Atlantic re-issue CDs not just this one. Still gets four stars though :)
