Buy and remember, although songs like "Maggie May" have never really gone away and sound as fresh today as they did back in the early seventies. An album like this makes you realise just how timeless Rod Stewart's music and songs are. Superb music and this double CD is excellent value.Enjoy!

I kind of trusted on the reviews.Ok there are some great songs on it,the classic but also a lot of rubbish.A great number of songs (even some famous ones) sound like they were recorded with electronic music.
I'm going to look for a cd with maybe less songs but more quality.

This album is rubbish!! It's a shame I have to give it even one star.

There's not one reference to snow, paper, colombian marching powder or anything else white including Xmas!!!

Nope, it's all over the show, no structure to the album at all, songs all jumbled up. I think The Beatles must have still been on drugs when they put this album together. Oh Bla Di, Oh Bla Da????? Oh Bloody Hell more like.

Brian Epstein died just before this album was released, and personally, I think he had some insider knowledge as to how this album sounded. This album also coincides with Oh-no making an appearance. Something which must have put them all off their stride, judging by the sounds of it!!

When this album hit the shops Pres.Kennedy had just been assasinated.As no one felt like celebrating-so they say-the album was a total flop and warehouses all over the country had 1000s of returned copies.
Understandably Spector was annoyed after all that work!
Probably the fact that the Singing Nun represented that years Christmas hit!
In 1964 the British Invasion which gave a boost to his career as the Ronettes toured the U K and the man came here to nob with the Stones and his British answer Andrew Loog Oldham who would prove beneficial.
as for the Beatles they would be his Saviour and by the early 70s both Harrison and Lennon had increased his bank balance considerably as well as his ego.Plus the fact that Apple had reissued the Christmas album. ... Read More:

The Essential Leonard Cohen

This is as fine an introduction to the works of Leonard Cohen as could be imagined. The track list, selected by the man himself, covers almost every period of his recorded output (Cohen is not prolific in the way, say, Bob Dylan is, or Neil Young), but I do feel some truly great stuff has been overlooked, i.e. the hushed, but haunting version of 'Story Of Isaac' from 1973's LIVE SONGS, which is one of the most profound things that anyone has ever written, the great live recordings from FIELD COMMANDER COHEN: Tour Of 1979, which admittedly was not released until after THE ESSENTIAL LEONARD COHEN appeared. All the 29 (so far) 1 star reviews are not reviews of the music but of the marketing of the 3CD version. Amongst them are some very angry long standing Dylan fans who refuse to even buy any of the versions, not merely the over priced deluxe version. Well, thats their loss.

I started listening to Dylan as a teenager in the early 60's and have always felt that the first three albums from the electric period were the peak of an amazing career. This new collection is another wonderful peak that has enabled me to revisit the period they cover and add to my appreciation of his later career. I have not yet found a song to better my personal Dylan favourite 'Desolation Row' but there are several that come close after a few weeks of listening and the collection only adds to my gratitude ... I have just got the box set recently, and have been enjoying it greatly. Not just that, my three daughters aged 9, 6 and 2 are great fans, and want to listen to it all the time in the car. And the two-year-old even says 'Rock' once she hears the first few bars of 'We will rock you'. Just goes on to show that Queen truly made ageless music, which still scores far above most contemporary music.
