This is the compilation which defines the most criminally overlooked rock band in history. One of the greatest songwriters of the late 20th century, backed up by a troop of amazing guitarists, with Gorham, Robertson and Moore blasting out riffs and, more importantly, some of the greatest guitar solos ever throughout each song on this compilation. This band is a monolith of rock music and thankfully this compilation shows this very well.

my only quibble is that perhaps this shouldve been called 'the very best of' or something like that. In that case southbound and massacre couldve been added too, as well as the rest of the black rose album. By no means all the greatest early songs, this compilation does include her hits and well-known album tracks from the 1960s and early 1970s. It focuses on the later Vanguard years when she moved into pop and rock. Four Dylan tracks are included plus her greatest commercial success, The Band's The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, a lilting melodious song about the civil war, her big hit from 1971.

Farewell Angelina from the album of the same name is another gem, and then there's the civil rights anthem We Shall Overcome. The album that, in 1974, brought Bob Dylan back from the semi-wilderness he'd been in and out of since 1967. A laid-bare, heart-rending reconstruction in the recording studio of his disintegrating marriage, "Blood On The Tracks" contains some of Bod Dylan's (and anybody's) finest recorded work. It is, needless to say, completely reccommendable to anyone think of trying Dylan's music out for size, and yes there are many who know far less about his work than those of us who were brought up on this album in the seventies. These people are whom this review is aimed at. The rest of us know it's great.

This was the first ever Deep Purple album that I heard, it was loaned to me on cassette which I played on a pretty crappy portable mono cassette player and even then it rocked. I've since bought around 50 LPs & CDs so who said home taping was killing music? This CD version is a real steal at the price because not only does it have the full concert it also has the encores. OK so it wasn't all recorded from one concert but the best bits from 3 different ones, but if you listen to the Live in Japan 3 CD set you will realise what a difficult job they had in picking the best performances. The performances here really are outstanding with the whole band playing as well as they ever did. If you only ever buy one Deep Purple CD this should be it.

This is a great record of undefinable trips into blues and folk with a jazz vibe at times.
Great guitar playing, great singing, great songs and an almost mesmerising laid back atmosphere.
Nothing else I have heard by John Martyn touches this.
I love to hear a record where a musician so clearly says "this is my sound, and it isn't like anyone else"
He shies away from the "hey nonny nonny" of Pentangle etc and produces a genre-defying piece of brilliance which could sit equally in the folk or blues camps.

This is great music - it just remains for you to buy it immediately at this bargain price.

So Roger Waters threw the toys out of the pram and spat out his dummy. Who the hell cares? He went on to have a successful solo career and jolly good luck to him.

But to then say, oh well Pink Floyd is no longer in existence and this is a Gilmour solo album, under the name of Pink Floyd, is frankly infantile. This is David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright and they are as much the essence of Pink Floyd as Roger Waters ever was. Oh and by the way if Roger Waters was so damn sure that Floyd could not exist without him, why did he take such trouble to exclude Rick Wright and draw up legal papers preventing him from ever rejoining the group? Awesome album. 'Hole in the Sky' is one of the best hard rock songs ever written FACT. 'Megalomania' 'The Thrill of it All' and 'The Writ' are all epic songs with huge unforgettable hooks. Also, listen to Sabbath inventing thrash metal in 1975 with 'Symptom of The Universe'.
'Supertzar' is cool but the album is let down slightly by 'Am I Going Insane' which is only alright.
Buy.Or.Die.Losers.

The result is a good all round representation of the skill, the talent, the sheer joy that was Buddy Holly's music. It is hard to believe all this happened in just 18 months. If anyone ever left a legacy, he did.
