Had this album on vinyl years ago, and recently bought the digitally remastered CD. Wow! It's even better than my most golden memories of it! I had forgotten just how good a singer Joni Mitchell was/is. Most of these songs are just Joni with her guitar. One of them - 'The Fiddle and the Drum' - is just Joni without even her guitar. But these are not simple three chord strumalong songs. In spite of tending towards the sparse and austere, they are also quite complex. There are unconventional guitar tunings, chord progressions and key changes that keep these songs fresh, however often I listen to them.

Although the band still manage to create great songs and sounds it was during the 1980s that they arguably produced some of their best work and indeed, created some of the songs of all time which made the band the worldwide phenomenon they are today.

Songs like Pride, With or with out you, I still haven't found what I'm looking for and Where the streets have no name are now iconic and serve to represent what was a golden era for U2 and the music world in general.

Even if your not bothered about the B sides this compilation is simply brilliant and well worth owning. For me it should be in any music lovers collection.

Unfortunately that era was the 1980s and music was crap e.g. Spandau Ballet (especially the later Gold era image rubbish), The Thompson Twins, and all that guff. Dire Straits were just so up themselves, it was like watching paint dry.

I am 17 year old and i'm a massive fan of heavy metal, I love most types of music from Heavy Metal to Blues to abit of Indie to Instrumental rock and all types of rock from 60s 70s and 80s. 2 of my friends who have similar taste in music as me really like Eric Clapton so I checked his greatest hits and that was brilliant. Then I decided to start my Cream selection and bought this and i love it.

This awesome rock/blues album was made famous by the song Sunshine Of Your Love, which is a brilliant song but there is more to this album then that song. The best song for me here is World Of Pain it's amazing and the vocals on this album are brilliant. I was never a Roxy fan,I was only a kid during the 70`s and only knew of them because my oldest sister was in love with Ferry,I heard some of the early Roxy songs and never thought about them much until I started getting into music myself at the start of the 80`s and remembered hearing Avalon,More Than This and Same Old Scene on the radio very often.
The surprising thing to me on this collection of songs is just how good and how many hits Roxy had,the only thing that drops a star for me is that the early stuff is harder for me to like but hey I`m an 80`s child.
For me this record has done what it was intended to,it`s made me want to go out and buy the other Roxy albums.

This album contains some of Dylan's best songs, and alot of people seem to think that it's his best acoustic album. I have to say I disagree there, my favourite being 'another side', but this album has some great songs: there are protest songs such as 'a hard rain's a-gonna fall' (my favourite!) in which Dylan tells us about the hardships, poverty and injustice of the world with lyrics that paint almost horrific images in your mind, and 'oxford town', a short, very folky tune about racism in America, particularly in the south, and there are songs about lost friendships and love such as 'Bob Dylan's dream', 'corrina, corrina' and 'don't think twice, it's alright', plus bluesy comedies like 'Bob Dylan's blues' and 'I shall be free'. Originally released in 1968 The Village Green Preservation Society is now seen as The Kinks finest individual release. In retrospect it's easy to see why it sold so poorly as its cosy nostalgic songs were well out of place in a time when rock was just beginning to get heavy. It's only with the passing of time than one can admire the albums brilliance.

The album is all Ray Davies originals and the themes of the songs are sepia toned to a time which probably never existed, but should have. What really makes the album work is the punchy production, which is at once rhythmic and melodic, and prevents the atmosphere from being twee. Released as the last beatles album but recorded prior to abbey road,let it be serves as a document of a band that had all they could take of each other,the documentary of the recording of this album makes for painful viewing at times,this album hides it somewhat but the end was certainly on the horizon,this album does indeed feel raw and ragged and unpolished but that is how the band started,alot of this was recorded in one take and felt very live,with the exception of a few tracks that was the intention.
The album contains a few throwaways that dont really do anything,short and unefective,they hurt the album somewhat,there are of course plenty of classics,its just the two wee snippet songs that rank as poor,everything else is in fact pretty great,hard to fault in fact,from the superb 'two ...
