I like a variety of music from country through to thrash metal. Enjoy listening to Roy Harper and Bob Dylan so I thought I would give Neil Young a try. Knew nothing about this album before I bought it but the gravely, drawn, folk/rock melodies are simply excellent. I definetly will be purchasing more.

10CC were huge in the mid to late 70's. Much like contemporaries ELO they were often overlooked by the more hybrow critics and dismissed as merely Beatles wannabe's. Whilst the Beatle comparisons cannot be denied messers, Godley, Creme, Gouldman and Stewart were an entirely more exciting prospect than Jeff Lynne's mob.
Lyrically erudite, musically inventive and all four band members possesed of great voices, 10cc peddled harmony drenched, hugely inventive powerpop and retro rock. At their best they were sublime - 'I'm Mandy, Fly Me', 'Life Is A Minestroni' and 'Rubber Bullets'. 'I'm Not In Love' may have been dulled by massive over exposure but it's still a great ballad and more than deserved it's number 1 position on both sides of the Atlantic. ... Read More:

Shortly after his first album Young released a rather patchy album that's real claim to fame was the first appearance of Crazy Horse. The voice is more assured than on the opener but that takes away some of the quirkiness that made the opener sound fresher than a rather stodgy offering in which Young seems to be desperately trying to make a niche for himself.
'Parallel Lines' is a nice and short album - backing up my firm belief that all the best music material comes in short packages. Every track plays like a single here, and there are four 'official' hits including two Number Ones; 'Picture This', 'Hangin' On The Telephone', 'Heart Of Glass' and 'Sunday Girl'. These included two singles that were released in a year (1978) that was the best-selling year for the 7" single in music history that went on to cause all sorts of manufacturing problems. The hit singles are well-placed on the original LP, and this was also released as a Limited Edition in clear Vinyl. The material on this album was so good, it could have easily spawned other singles ... Read More:

The move was only around for a short period during that time they had many line up changes and morphed into the electric light orchestra.
This thoughtfully put together Anthology takes you from the first demos (You're The One I Need) by the move, Mod classics through to the final single `California Man'
The first disc covers the original line up Ace Kefford, Bev Bevan, Carl Wayne, Trevor Burton and Roy Wood, and includes `Night of Fear' `Fire Brigade' and `Flowers in the Rain' plus a host of songs from the first album.
Disc 2 dates from the `Something else' EP live show, now including Move originals and remixed into stereo for the first time.
Disc 3 takes in sessions from late 67 and 1968 and early 1969 where the band in quick succession lost Ace ... Read More:

Years ago, I bought 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' on the recommendation of a trusted friend, who told me it was considered an idiosyncratic masterpiece in the vein of 'Astral Weeks,' though musically miles apart. Whereas I liked the album, I was never the biggest fan of extended musical jams, which 'Cowgirl In The Sand' and 'Down By The River' sounded like to me. In short, I couldn't love it, and I already knew 'Harvest,' 'After The Goldrush' and Youngs work with Buffalo Springfield particularly well. What I was looking for was that rare nugget that makes you fall in love with music all over again. Then, recently, I was drawn in by the effusive reviews of the reissued 'John, The Wolfking Of L.A.' by John Phillips, and it is a fairly consistent and good portrait of the ... Read More:

Is Great Expectations listening to the same CD as everyone else that has rightly given this CD 5 stars - he is correct in that you had to be there - and I was on many occasions and then later the inferior White Snake & Rainbow -as stated by many this is arguably the best live recording ever made - no contest as far as I'm concerned.- the interplay between Lord & Blackmore - and the pulsating rhythm section is incredible! Others can only aspire!

It has been difficult for some time to buy a Kinks compilation that truely represents how good a band they were.
For me, this collection does just that. The real advantage is the second disk which I, contrary to the previous reviewer, think is the main reason for buying this cd above any of the other alternatives.
In particular, the tracks David Watts, Dandy, Mr Pleasant, Where Have all the Good Times Gone?, Well Respected Man, Starstruck and Shangri La are all fantastic songs. Shangri La in particular is an overlooked gem.
If you are speculating whether to get a Kinks cd or not, then this should really be the place to make your first stop.

This 2CD set is the first official release for The Doors live performances at The Matrix on 7 and 10 March 1967. It's existed in various boot releases on vinyl and CD formats over the years, most but not all of them in rather poor, weedy sound quality.
Bruce Botnick's warning in the sleeve notes of variable sound quality here does not bode well, especially bearing in mind the very decent quality of "The Matrix Tapes" 2CD boot in 1990 on The Swinging Pig Records, which comprised exactly the same 24 tracks as this official issue (albeit in a different running order). Then again there is still hope as Bruce Botnick's sleeve notes were wrong in saying that it's amazing that Jim's "high" of the "she gets high" line fame in "Break on Through" was absent, mirroring the single release of a ... The woman in our local corner shop often has her Rod Stewart T-shirts on.
"Have you got the Jeff Beck albums yet?" I ask.
She smiles benignly as if to say; "Idiot! What would my Roddy be doing on a Jeff Beck album, I do wish he'd stop asking me that!"
Jeff Beck's first album after leaving The Yardbirds, and after enjoying (?) 2 or 3 chart singles on which HE took the lead vocals this album was an absolute blessing to hear; this was what we expected from a band fronted by him! And yes, regardless of my disbelieveing corner shop lady, her Roddy sings on all the original album tracks, and makes an especially fine job on every one of them, and would surprise quite a few of those disbeliever's in the process with 'Ol Man River' for starters.
And as if the first 10 tracks were not enough for ... Read More:
