When you've had a rubbish week and the hum-drum routine is starting to get you down, put this record on and be reassured. I love all of Dylan's work but not all of it is as joyful and pleasurable as this. Like fine food and wine, Blonde on Blonde is one of life's great indulgences.

Doesn't matter how many 'best ofs' you buy, you still need to hear Queen and Queen II to understand what they were like when some of us were lucky enough to see them perform in university music venues before they became a supergroup. I loved this album then and I love it now. You don't need a video of their amazing stage performances to enjoy it just as music. Why haven't you bought it yet??

The Pretenders are probably the most enduring and ignored bands from the 70s.alot of people dont even realise that they are still going strong.from their 1st album up until Viva El Amor most of their singles are included on this album and all of their biggest hits are here. This is a great album with so many different styles your never quite sure what decade you are in.

'Mess Of Blues' is an absolutely sensational collection of live, predominantly blues recordings from the sadly departed guitar virtuoso and his brilliant band. If you like blues guitar played with passion and feeling, coupled with a tight, jumping rhythm section then this album is for you. Jeff Healey, in the liner notes, describes his band as "the very best bar band that anyone could ask for" and he wasn't wrong - they're tremendous.
The choices of songs are interesting and varied and make for a rich, eclectic, engaging listen, including tracks such as The Band's 'The Weight', Neil Young's 'Like A Hurricane' and Hank Williams' 'Jambalaya', all performed brilliantly. Standards such as 'I'm Torn Down', 'Mess O' Blues' and 'Shake, Rattle ... Read More:

I have to admit that I am not a great Dylan fan. I adore Jimi Hendrix version of 'All Along the Watchtower' and Nina Simone's version of 'I Shall Be Released'. Yet when I listen to 'Desire' I can suddenly suspend my previous preconceptions and understand some of Dylan's appeal. Starting off with 'Hurricane', a superb indictement of judicial Racism, with lyrics which really hit their target. The rest of the album concerns some far more personal material, such as the last track 'Sara'concerning his wife whom he was on the point of divorcing, a beautifully direct love song, with sublime lyrics. The rest of the tracks seem to dwell on unfufilled love 'One More Cup of Cofee' or 'Mozambique' or to tales about various rough diamonds who seem to be bordering ... Read More:

The best greatest hits collection so far from the best piano player in pop...and worth buying for the classic "Dont Go Breaking My Heart".
Release Date November 26, 2007
Almost single-handedly defined 'art rock', Roxy burst onto the music scene with a slew of excitingly original singles, top-selling albums, and eye-catching performance. The grainy, lip-synched footage of the band, Eno already resplendent in boa and feathers, live at the Royal College of Art in '72 is relatively restrained, tentative even, but the pace gathered swiftly for resultant glammed-up forays into period Brit music TV: the OGWT, Mike Mansfield's Supersonic and silly old Top Of The Pops. The need to be seen as well as heard doing something different prompted above average churn in the costume dept., adding to the fun no end. Mackay is a cross between an alien and a fly; Eno, a camp Riff Raff; meaty drummer Paul Thompson distinctly uneasy in a leopard-skin; while Ferry works his ... Read More:

I remember this album when it came out in 1965. I wasn't interested in the controversy - the music just sounded great. I had never heard anything like it...... I still don't know exactly how you would describe this style. Anyway , when it came out it became iconic for some people, which includes me.
Although it's of it's time it's still unquestionably listenable today - interpret the lyrics if that is your whim - you don't have to, in my opinion, to merely enjoy the album at first listening.

Ok,so some mixed reviews on this one - firstly,I am no big fan of Rod Stewart but I am a big fan of good music and this type of music in particular.
For a top rock star like Rod to put his reputation on the line by recording these songbooks must have been a big decision for him to make.I agree that he is no old style crooner but I think he makes a great attempt at it.
There are many great performances in this collection and to be fair,he does himself proud on most of the tracks.
I think however that the orchestral arrangements are a little bland at times and an artist draws his inspiration from those around him and relies heavily on great arrangements and inspiring performances by supporting musicians.
There can be no doubt that the material is superb. It just doesn't get any better ... Read More:

Don't take drugs. Let Hawkwind take them for you. This was definitely the turning point. Riffs, chants, sounds, Space lyrics and in the middle of it all is the madness of 'Adjust Me'. Including the fan fave 'Master of the Universe' plus bonus single 'Silver Machine' and B-side '7 by 7' this could be all you need to begin your Hawkwind journey. Originally released in 1971, the Hawkwind had risen from the underground and were claiming ground on the surface. Fantastic!
