LOTC was my intitation into the world of Joni Mitchell. Fourteen years old, with romantic notions about Woodstock as it approached the twentieth anniversary, I searched out the cassette to hear what Graham Nash had described.
The "Woodstock" anthem was the catalyst for LOTC success, but it is by no means the only, or even best, tune this effort offers. "Morning Morgantown" sets the scene for a recording that basically takes the listener through a pastoral panorama. Along the way are some observations about the intrusion of art meets commerce ( "For Free"), manipulative triangles ( " Conversation"), Gender roles ( the stunning " Arrangement"), and spiritual quest ( " The Priest"). Of course, another career launcher, " Big Yellow ... Read More:

I already own this classic album in 3 forms, LP CD & remastered CD.
Having purchased this on the strength of the live gig, I'm afraid it's painful listening. The band sound great but the vocals are out of tune & I've found it unlistenable. Why would the band (Mac?) authorise this, there must be better gigs to release?
Stick to the remastered Ocean Rain CD & save your hard earned....

I'm probably going to enrage a few readers, but what a very poor album this is. And i'm not saying that because i'm any kind of champion of military intervention. The message is wholly laudable, but i found this album to be unbelievably..........lame. Neil's got a whole load of friends to help out on choir duties, and it sounds very amateurish. I almost regret having wasted the time on giving it a spin. (Sorry if i've caused offence to any big fans of this piece of work.)

I've never been one for the jazz themed white noise thrashouts so beloved of Mr Pierce, but always loved the droney cathedral rock of his earlier days (which I appreciate is just as unmusical to some ears - I absolutely love Pure Phase). Ladies and Gentlemen is undoubtedly his masterpiece (jazz themed white noise thrashouts notwithstanding), but why oh why did I not buy a second copy and keep the first fresh in its pill box?
Anyway, post L&G the work declined. Some decent stuff on Let it come down, but I didn't bother with Amazing Grace. This is a return to form. I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who said he might need a bit more inspiration when it comes to song titles, but the songs and music are back. I cannot stop listening to Death ... Read More:

There are some people who come into your life in whatever fashion and change it utterly. Dylan more than anyone else through his own search for who, what and where he was going and also in musical terms formed an articulate voice for our inarticulate postwar generation. He throughout his search through the musical lexicon hall of fame including such luminaries as Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly and Cisco Houston injected a large dose of adrenalin into our teenage angst and we started to recognise what kind of world we were living in and and that we wanted to and how to change it.From thinking that in the words of one politician "we had never had it so good "we started realising how bad it was and and an inkling of how bad it was going to get.Dylan's songs and whole repertoire encapsulate ... You know, Pink Floyd really could have filled any ambition musically. In many ways, its sad that such talent became hijacked by the twin demons of the 'space-rock' tag and Waters' megalomanic breakdown that shattered the band in the late 70's. The evidence for a wider talent is no more clearly heard than in this collection of songs, obscured by the shadows of the huge Meddle and DSOTM albums.
As others have noted, the album picks up where side 1 of Meddle left off, with melodic, catchy, bucolic songs covering a range of styles but underpinned by top notch musicianship, particularly from Gilmour. There are so many strands of this album which are now woven into the patchwork of popular music in this century, from Ryan Adams to Chemical Brothers.

[One CD, with a running time of 78:22] This collection of Moody Blues hits would better be called, "The Moody Blues Through The Years." The songs run from their early Go Now (1964), through I Know You're Out There Somewhere (1988). Along the way, we get the touching Isn't Life Strange, the haunting Forever Autumn, the radiant The Voice, and many other great songs.
My one and only complaint is that Nights In White Satin is included without Graeme Edge's spellbinding poem Late Lament. I have always found that poem to be a fantastic epilogue to the song. But that's such a minor complaint. This is a great CD, and well worth the money.
By the way, the sleeve includes a one or two-sentence story of each song, and a conversation between John Reed and Justin Hayward, which tells the story of ... Read More:

Covering the period 1967 to 1971, 'Relics' was originally released to capitalise on the success of the 'Atom Heart Mother' album. It now stands as the perfect introduction to the band's early work (alongside 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn') for those who only know 'Dark Side of the Moon' or 'The Wall'. A selection of tracks from the early LPs are presented alongside the two big Syd Barrett period singles 'Arnold Layne' and 'See Emily Play' not included on albums of the time. For fans, 'Biding My Time' is not available anywhere else, and 'Julia Dream' and this version of 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' are only otherwise available on 'The Early Singles' disc available only in the 'Shine On' box set.
But what about the music? If you only know Floyd's later work, the sound may be something of a shock. ... Read More:

If you had stood up in front of the punks of 1977 and declared that the next ten years of mainstream British guitar based music would be dominated by a Geordie bloke influenced by American Folk\R+B and Country and Western, and wearing a headband and a dopey grin, you would have been showered with spit and bottled out of the room, but that is exactly what happened.
From the late 70's through to the late 80's mark Knopfler and his 'uncool' band Dire Straits were the benchmark of success, and filled Stadiums around the world selling tens of millions of Albums. Brothers in Arms to date remains the best selling album of all time in the UK, with the British record industry estimating at one point, that 1 in 3 households had a copy of the album in various formats.
The classics are all here including ... Read More:

You can read loads of thoughts about this iconic album in the other reviews. What you need to know that the other reviews don't mention is the vastly superior sound quality on this CD compared to the original LP. I don't know what it was about the original LP, (the cut, the production, the engineering, the studio?) but it always sounded to me as though it had been recorded in a cardboard box. I note that King Crimson's Larks Tongue in Aspic was also recorded at EG's Command Studios and that sounded flat to me too. Anyway, this mix is much improved and polishes this diamond very nicely.
