To fully understand Staus Quo you have to first view the era which created them and most importantly the influences that were around them. The Quo are one of the few groups who made the transition from hippie pop to hard rock, they managed to re mould the sound and image to appeal to the 70s in a way that was unique to them. Those ignorant of musical structure seem to believe that the quo only used 3 chords within the structure of most songs however as a musician myself I can vouch that nearly all songs contain both many chordal and modular changes, if you want three chords try Led Zepplin.
This album is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest rock outfits of all time...enjoy!!

Buy all the original albums, especially the live ones. If this really were the best of Cream it would consist almost entirely of live tracks whereas in fact there is only one included here, the celebrated 'Crossroads'. In any case 'Wrapping Paper' and 'Anyone For Tennis' obviously have no business being here as 'the best of' but are here simply because they happened to be released as singles, more because of Cream's management than Cream themselves. On the other hand of course this sort of compilation traditionally rounds up things that are not included on the main albums thus insuring sales to completists.
Despite all it's shortcomings I have to say that if I had rated this against any other group I would have given it at least 4 stars, ... Read More:

Maddy Prior's voice is still one of the most recognisable in the folk canon, along with Sandy Denny and Jacqui McShee, and these first three Steeleye Span albums showcase a wide variety of their best songs, particularly with Maddy accompanied by Ashley Hutchings, Martin Carthy, Peter Knight and Tim Hart on the second and third albums. These contain such classic songs as 'False Knight On The Road', 'Lovely On The Water' and 'When I Was On Horseback'. This early version of Steeleye had no drummer and the later line-up became more electric folk orientated when Rick Kemp and Bob Johnston joined and Martin Carthy left. Highly recommended.

I agree with those who put forward this work as the best of all Becker and Fagen's output in that marvellous run of albums that started here. There is a charm and innocence about this that would be lost in subsequent recordings where the sardonic lip curl and density of production would dominate proceedings. There is a real High School feel to 'Can't Buy a Thrill' that really draws you in to a world of growing up, of first experience and innocence just lost; of an America 'before the fall' and the smart-ass cynicism of later Dan albums that effectively chronicle and reflect the corporatisation of the 1970's music business. I never tire of listening to this and it's been with me for most of my adult life, always sounding fresh and surrendering new discoveries every ... Read More:

A banal, irritating record. The lyrics are full of cliches, and the music is unexceptional. Only "Natural Beauty" rises above the dross.

The post-Barrett to pre-Dark Side (1968-1972*) albums are considered to consist of a lot of aimless instrumental noodling with only the occasional song, most of which are second rate filler. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, Pink Floyd's first album, is considered to be a great, consistent album that really does work as a cohesive ALBUM. I have to disagree.
Piper is just as much a hodgepodge of filler and aimless noodling as the subsequent albums. It's just that the good stuff is REALLY good and the mediocre filler is coated in over the top praise just because they make up the majority of the myth shrouded Syd Barrett back catalogue.
In my opinion Astronomy Domine and Bike are the only brilliant songs on this album. Lucifer Sam is a good groovy '60's psychedelic ... Read More:

In the midst of reading the Eno biography "On Some Faraway Beach" -about page 120 if you are pedantic - i came to the section where the narrative deals with Roxy Music,s 1973 album For Your Pleasure. Described as a "gruelling and disquieting experience|" by Charles Shaar Murray on its release ( that was a compliment) Roxy,s second album is easily the best of their career melding Bryan Ferry,s art rock styling's with Brian Eno,s sonic sculptures and dissonant tweaks.
The Roxy line up at that time had the classic elements of Ferry , Andrew Mackay and Phil Manzanera along with the soon to depart Eno , bassist John Porter-who would soon depart also, Roxy going through bassist ,s like Spinal Tap through drummers and Paul Thompson on drums. The band were able to revel in the extra studio time they ... Read More:

The Haar which rolls off the north sea and obliterates the islands and fishing boats from those who would stand on Fife's East Neuk shores appears to act as some sort a magic creative cloak if we measure the incredible number of musicians and artists who have gained inspiration from the land and sea in this wind blown corner of Scotland.
One of East Neuk most famous sons...relatively speaking...is the cat loving, real ale quaffing scruff bag, James Yorkston who has marked out his territory from fellow Fence Collective artists like the more rock/pop orientated King Creosote by virtue of the quality of his songwriting and his musicianship which is certainly more traditionally folk based than the aforementioned KC who nevertheless is a huge talent in his own right.
Without beating around the bush any ... Read More:
