I'm not going to comment on the musical merits of Mark Knopfler's (perhaps) defining achievement--but wish to note that that although this CD is extensively labeled as 'remastered'; it is ironically quite lacking in terms of audio quality. That is not to say it is a bad disc, but I was expecting more than merely an 'increased-loudness'-treatment.
I do wish there is a SACD release of this album planned...

I'll be brief as I'm still getting into the album, but what an album this is. I bought Five Leaves Left years ago on my crusade to pick up as many of Channel 4's top 100 albums as I could, though I only actually became familiar with it this summer, during which time I developed a serious appreciation for the young man's unique voice and those baffling guitar fingerings. After a surprise playing of "Hazey Jane II" on Radio 2 one Friday, I was reminded of my Nick Drake quest and quickly bought Bryter Layter on Thursday last. This is the first album in a long, long time that's had me hooked from the first spin. I actually put my hand on my forehead at one stage, amazed as I was at the standard of music therein. I was hesitant at first to listen to Drake as the ... Read More:

"A total classic record, that is unbeatable in many ways".
This particular tribute came from one Paul McCartney, who over the last forty years has declared his never ending love for 'Pet Sounds'. And we sure as hell don't know more than he does, so it goes without saying that 'Pet Sounds' is one of the greatest albums ever made.
But what astonishes the most, is that Brian Wilson wrote this virtually single handedly. The Beatles had just released the amazing 'Revolver', for Wilson to come out with something even better.
The saying that genius and madness are two sides of the same coin, it's no surprise to know that Wilson really was going mad at the time (He's since recovered somewhat). His eclectic use of organs, flutes, ... Read More:

For any serious, as opposed to obsessive fan, this largely excellent collection contains about as much Chuck Berry as anyone could ever want, and the contents are mostly well chosen. There are a fair number of obscure gems here that will please anyone who's enjoyed a single disc compilation and wondered if there was any more worth hearing: Childhood Sweetheart, Betty Jean, Little Marie (a surprisingly good sequel to Memphis Tennessee using the same tune but far better played and recorded), a fine cover of The Things I Used To Do, plus (nearly) all his classics and some fine minor hits such as Almost Grown, I'm Talking About You, You Can't Catch Me.
So it seems churlish to point out the defects that make this a 4 star collection as opposed to a 5 star one, but ... Read More:

This album marked a change for Rush and the world in general as we moved into the '80's. I wasn't a fan at first after being brought up on 2112 and Hemispheres, but the years have mellowed me. I think it is probably the last Album that Rush made that I can still listen to after nearly 30 years. When Signals came out in '82 I nearly cried. Buy it and reminisce over simpler times...

If you like music that is poetic, intelligent and rocks like a Godzilla with his tail on fire then you will love Patti Smith. Horses is a good first choice for anyone who wants to know her music.

This is a pretty good overview of the work and career of Supertramp but who decided to leave out their masterpiece - 'Fool's Overture'. It's like a Zeppelin best of without 'Stairway to Heaven' or a Beatles Collection without 'A day in the life'. Also for newcomers to Supertramp it would be better to start off with the 'Crime of the century' or 'Breakfast in America' albums where the tracks are in a more natural order, the way the band meant it to be. For these reasons I can only give it three stars.
Why Is He Famous?
He's a Grammy and Oscar-winning icon, who in the span of three decades gave us such classics as "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer" and "Can You Feel The Love Tonight," among many others. Then of course, there are his notorious spending habits.
Elton John's ,Woman Magnetism`
He may be gay, but that doesn't mean women don't appreciate what he has to offer.
Elton John deserves a high ranking in this area because he can communicate to women in ways most men can only dream. Common among many adult contemporary artists, Elton's ballads have the ability to melt women's hearts, a gift that goes
Elton John's Success
It goes without saying that there aren't many artists who are as famous as Elton John or as talented, ... Read More:

Absolutely brilliant effort from Fish. Been a fan since Marillion days and I have to admit I think this album is one of the best I have ever heard. 'Arc of the Curve' is something else, whilst 'Square Go' gets you going big style. Having seen Fish perform live in my home town of Elgin on a couple of occasions, this album has all the guttso to blow you away in a live setting.
