It's one of those albums that takes it's time to really soak in like OK Computer, then it's stuck in the CD player for months. So intricate that it's got something new each time you listen.
The Debut album is a cracker in places, but Sky 2 shows their confidence to play to their strengths as a band.
Toccata gets old on repeated plays but 'Watching the Aeroplanes' is an awesome piece in 4 parts.

whoever wrote the 'whats on this cd' blurb mislead me to buy this item - I needed the WHOLE of the Messiah AND THE WHOLE of Faure's Requiem and reading this blurb you think you have it - but guess what - there are only extracts - the titles given are just for the whole work - not the individual piece of music - so I cannot learn the pieces for two concerts I am performing in before Christmas off this - very misleading. Sorry - but it is not the only album Ill ever need.

I have been picking up pieces of Jenkins' pieces for a while now but i must say that for anyone new to his work or just interested in hearing some really great music then this album hits the spot. A good collection of many highlights. I recommend it as a great general listening piece and thoroughly worth buying just for adiemus alone! Super!

I should start my review by saying that as a Welshman living just a stone's throw from Karl Jenkins' home, I may be slightly biased but I'll try to give as balanced a view as possible.
There's certainly less of an ethnic feel to this latest release, and despite the ravings of a fellow reviewer here, the orchestrations sound fine to me (and before the one star reviewer asks, yes I am a classically trained musician).
Those of you who have enjoyed the recent Stabat Mater, the Armed Man etc will thoroughly enjoy Quirk. I'm fairly sure the decision to include Palladio was made by the marketing dept of the record company, and though I feel it's been done to death it's nice to have the 'definitive' version here.

This album has brought me hours of pleasure. It is beautifully sung by Kiri te Kanawa, her floating legato voice simply soaring and caressing the notes, and it is such relaxing music, it will dispel all your tiredness and tension.
Not only are there lovely floating songs, but also cheeky little 'stories' that are told in song as well, and the whole album is brilliantly complied and structured.

I've never written a review before, but my listening to this CD after I bought it earlier has compelled me to do so!
This recording of three truly great solists, Yo Yo Ma, André Previn and Leonard Bernstein, is simply fantastic. The amazing work of Shostakovich is given a new lease of life by these contemporary performers, who definitely breathe into it new life.
Typically, Shostakovich's cello music is attributed to Rostropovich, but I think Yo Yo Ma's interpretation of this - his edgy sound - is something to rival even him.
This is definitely a CD you'll want to play on loud - the orchestral clarity and recording quality is simply divine.

I love the film. I love the music and love most of this album. Some tracks seem a bit strange such as the second one which is why I was a bit choosy as to which ones went onto my MP3 player. The main theme is haunting and deffinitely the best, the ceilidh music less memorable. All in all though this is a good soundtrack album. If only I could get hold of the film on DVD I would be very happy.

Mr Rutter has come in for a fair bit of stick over the years, because writing popular, fairly easy to sing music arranged for groups ranging from the BBC Singers to Mrs Miggins, her cat and the choir of St Mary on the Wold MUST be a sin...
This collection is mostly his 'greatest hits' taken from various Collegium recordings, with a few bonus tracks. What really comes across in this recording is not just Mr Rutter's ability to write a good tune, harmonise it, give it good varience etc, but the clarity of music. This is truly brought about by his Cambridge Singers, who sing with an extraordinary clarity and sweet sound.
The title track is a new piece by Mr Rutter, and is a complete gem - accompanied by a flute and guitar only, the writing is ... Read More:

Not too impressed with the quality of the recording... I was really hoping for something MUCH better than that. If someone could recommended a brilliant audio recording of Carmen that would be just fantastic. This one lets me down I think. The singing is "top-drawer" though.
