I'm glad I bought this recording. Not only is it good value for money, with the "Coronation Mass" and the "Exsultate Jubilate" included, as well as the Litany K195, it's a fine performance of one of the most moving works ever written. It also has the added bonus of giving us the (I think) rarely heard edition by Franz Beyer, who "cleaned up" the more regularly performed Sussmayr version. Marriner and the Academy show their mettle to perfection here. If I have one quibble, it lies in the inexplicable arrangement of the items on disc one. Why place them in the order: Exsultate, then the "Coronation", then the Litany? The only reason I can conceive is that they were arranged from shortest to longest work, which doesn't make logical sense. Surely ... Read More:

i too am a fan of nigel kennedy , but this recording doesnt do anything for me though as ever it is exceptionaly well played...but the combination of "modern" bits in among the classical music only distracts me..i like one or the other but if you are more adventurous than me,i highly recomend it!

Dancers fabulous as usual, but unfortunately the original full length ballet has been severely cut, (to 78 minutes, for goodness sake) missing out a great many of the set pieces and therefore not showing to its best advantage. The missing scenes are wonderful to watch. I did have the full version originally and wish I could obtain it again.

Rattle's Mahler is really for people with open minds: people who don't hold on to Karajan and Barbirolli like comfort blankets! It's a great set, with the awarding winning second head and shoulders above anything else on the market (and yes, I've heard them all). The eighth (I was actually at the concert) is as perfect as you will hear anywhere too. And remember, several of these, including 1, 5, 7 & 8 are live recordings, really getting across the excitement and musicality not only of great events, but great Mahler.

I first heard the Mediaeval Baebes on a UK double CD (Best carols in the world ever) featuring three of their trackss (Guadete, Coventry carol, Adam lay ibounden), all of which can also be found on teir debut album, but my curiosity only became aroused when that UK double CD was updated and repackaged with a different title (Best Christmas carols ever) and all the Mediaeval Baebes tracks were omitted with other choirs replacing them. My research showed that they have become an established group (albeit with line-up changes) and are now very successful in their chosen style, which some may regard as classical but (since they sing with their natural voices rather than operatic voices) seems more like traditional folk music to me.

Julian Bream is a hugely under-rated artist and deserves more recognition than J.Williams in my opinion. I listened to Williams playing the same piece with Barenboim, but was unimpressed by his mechanical precision ( often mistaken by listeners and critics alike for his artistic strength ) and lack of emotion and tonal delicacy. He can not match the subtlety and richness of tones Bream produce and the soulful singing quality of melodie line. This recording of Aranjuez Concerto is a good proof. J.E.Gardiner provise brilliant and deeply-felt support with the orhcestra.

Sorry, but if this is supposed to be the official movie soundtrack then why isn't the title track here?
I have the soundtracks to all 21 Bond films (to date) and as much as I'm a fan, leaving out the title track seriously undermines this CD as an official product to back up the film.

This set is so basic I felt a bit ripped off. Inside the card box are the three DVD cases with bland looking covers, and inside were bare looking discs - it looks and feels like a cheap fake - but its the genuine article. I fell asleep during the "extras" disc.
