I am constantly playing this in the car because I love it so much, other recordings are good but this is just a little bit different, in the Allegro movement of Spring if you listen to the bit before the whole violin and viola section thunders it's way to the tumultuous tweeting solo, you will notice that Nigel bow's 4 times in quick succession instead of the usual 2, the cadenza allows for this and Nigel exploited it with typical panache. It's good to see him back in the limelight once more with his new recording, now lives in Krakow with his Polish missus.

The Only Piano Album You'll Ever Need

As a professional concert pianist for the last thirty years or so, it was a great relief to find that they have released everything you need on 2 CDs. Sure enough, since I bought it I have been able to discard the 1000 or so CDs that I had collected of performers like Cortot, Horowitz, Rachmaninoff and Schnabel (and I now have enough room for a pool table!). They are simply not necessary when you have these two CDs.

What more praise can be added to that of the previous two reviews? They have said it all! If I could I would give it much more than 5 stars! This is one of my all-time favourite CDs - this particular interpretation of Allegri's "Miserere", for me, is simply the best! I cannot find words to describe its effect on me - it is truly inspiring, sublime and uplifting! The Sixteen are extremely accomplished artists who bring great musicality and depth to all of their performances - they will never disappoint!

I approached this CD with caution given the hype that has surrounded recent appearances of both singers. I must confess that contrary to my expectations I was deeply moved by the singing here which recalls other great operatic couples of the past, Callas and di Stefano, Tebaldi and del Monaco. The recording has rarely been far from my CD player for the past two weeks.

As with the legendary couples from the past, there is something uneven about the two voices. Netrebko's voice is not a warm voice but is beautifully focused, always on the note and has to my ears a dark unjuicy quality. It is a stunning voice. Villazon, by contrast, has a voice that could hardly be described as beautiful the way that Corelli's, Pavarotti's or Domingo's undoubtedly ... Read More:

My Fair Lady - Original Soundtrack

Most musical recordings seem choppy mostly because they are, and are rendered from the stage play, so of course they wouldn't make that much sense. MY FAIR LADY holds up well and you don't get this sense. The entire ablum is a gem and there's not a sour note in it.

Hmm, Yes! He's obviously got a good voice-or he wouldn't have got a recording contract or the backing for tours.
But I WISH someone would polish up his on-stage persona.(Made me cringe!)
His 'cheeky winks' and thumb waving put me in mind of someone saying
"Ayoop Lad, Ow's t'pijjinns? (with his Whippet somewhere in the wings)
Hopefully Russell's pencil-thin figure will appeal to the younger, more health conscious set (Unlike someone we used to love...)

I picked this up after I was transfixed by the track Otremare which was used in the film This Is England. I'd read that most of the music by Einaudi sounds similar, yet each track is unique. I couldn't agree more. This is hughly addictive stuff. Mostly piano with the occasional string instrument thrown in, this makes for a great listen while pottering about or just winding down. I don't listen to a great deal of music like this generally so I can't really compare it to anything else or even claim to understand why I like it. But I do really like it.
