The Seekers recorded this Christmas album in June 2001, but the songs sound exactly as you would expect a Seekers Christmas album to sound. There have been a few changes of line-up down the years (even including a different lady also called Judith), but the line-up here includes at least three of the original members - Judith Durham, Keith Potger and Bruce Woodley. The fourth member is Athol Guy - I confess I can't remember whether he was the original fourth member or not.
Morningtown ride (to Christmas) is - as you would expect - an adaptation of one of their big hits of the sixties, but they haven't changed it much.
Once in Royal David's city is a lovely carol, which is very popular in Britain (and maybe Australia). ... Read More:

I must confess that this recording is not entirely to my personal taste, but it would be churlish to deny it a five star rating. As an atheist, I still get intense pleasure listening to the mass as an art form rather than as an act of worship. The Gabrieli Consort, here, offer a recreation of how a Lutheran mass might have sounded in the early-17th century. I have no doubts about the authenticity or quality of their production, it's just that the piece, itself, is not entirely to my taste.
Born in Kreuzberg, Michael Schultheiss (1571-1621) was the son of a Lutheran pastor, a man, indeed who had been a student of Luther himself - he took the name Praetorius as a Latinisation of his surname (it means 'mayor'). Praetorius began ... Read More:

I've never come across a Christmas album quite like this - before or since, so it makes this one particularly special. Traditional country singers have often recorded Christmas albums, but they invariably dress them up in some way to make them acceptable to a wider audience than their usual releases. This is understandable, because Christmas often brings together people with different musical tastes, and singers want to appeal to as many as possible.
Reba recorded this album during her 'traditional' phase in the mid eighties. Like the other albums she recorded around that time, there was plenty of steel and fiddles, but absolutely no compromises to pop crossover - that came later (including her second Christmas album, The secret of giving). This album is close to perfection...
Remember when you were a child and you woke up on christmas morning?? They joy of the presents!!! Snow outside!! This cd takes you back to that time!! The pure joy of the music, the melody, the interplay of the voices.
You really feel cleaner after hearing this!
For one fleeting moment, you become what you used to be, perhaps even what you wished you could be.
I love xmas.
I love this album.. and if you give it a chance, so will you!

Although some people might argue that not every song here is truly a Christmas song, every song here is entitled to appear on such an album. And any idea that a song has to mention Christmas in the lyrics in order to be classed as a Christmas song is clearly nonsense as that would rule out Silent night, the most popular Christmas song of all, and a whole hot of other Christmas perennials. I agree that some Christmas albums stretch the boundaries a bit too far, but this isn't one of them.
So to the actual music, which Connie recorded at at a time when her popularity was extremely high. Here, Connie was in top form as usual. Most of the songs are Christmas standards including Winter wonderland, The Christmas song, White Christmas, I'll be home ... Read More:

This is a truly wonderful recording of the Christmas music of one of the greatest British classical composers of all time Ralph Vaughn Williams performed beautifully by The City Of London Sinfonia under the direction of one of my favourite conductors,Richard Hickox.
The soloists and the choir of The Joyful Company of Singers are magnificent. Sarah Fox (soprano) and Roderick Williams (baritone) sing their parts with great expression and feeling for the music. The clarity of this recording is outstanding - one can hear every word that is sung and every sensitive note that is played due to the marvellous balance of this recording.
I have heard these works performed many times but this is by far the best recording I have heard. The hauntingly ... Read More:

I ordered this album and thought it was the best christmas album I have ever bought. The songs are all so christmassy and really put you in the christmas mood. It is a great collection of varied artists, so it suits everyone's style of music. Favourites of mine are the beautiful "silver bells", the pretender's version of "merry little christmas" which is delightful, and mariah carey's belting powerful version of "o holy night" that sounds like she has desended from heaven. Buy it and feel 100% christmassy.

If you enjoy Reggie then you would feel that this album would offer you the excellence in Christmas music. It started with dreary renditions of several much loved carols. The casio keyboard music effect did nothing to enhance it. Further along the album at Track 16 there starts to be a big improvement and I would say to buy it for this part alone!

Yeah....Twisted Sister doing a Christmas album....the absudity of it!!! But you know what, it rocks. Classic TS humour runs through the veins of this opus. I`m sure by the New year the novelty will have worn thin, but hey, put it away with the Xmas decorations and rediscover next year. A few Yuletime beverages and a Twisted Christmas, equals fun for all.
