Christmas with Mario lanza isn't just songs you'll listen to at Christmas Time. Yes there are Christmas Carol's such as Joy to the World, Silent Night, God Rest You Merry Gentlemen and O Holy Night which reflect the true meaning of Christmas. However, the tracks I'll Walk with God and Guardian Angels, whilst on a Christmas album will be played at anytime during the year! The song I'll walk with God was written for the film The Student Prince and is closely associated with Mario Lanza. As is Guardian Angels which is really an evening prayer. Harpo Marx, of the famous Marx Brothers, set Gerda Beilenson's lyrics to music. This was my Mothers favourite Christmas album, and, I've bought this as an early Christmas present for my Father. To be honest ... Read More:

This is now the 11th Christmas that this music has been part of the tradition of my holiday season, and although I've acquired numerous other holiday music collections over the years, this far surpasses any other collection that I own. It is difficult to do justice to this music by describing it in mere words. The collection ranges from the 14th to the 16th Century, and is unlike any other collection of Christmas music available. It evokes the true spirit of the Christmas season, is enlightening, inspirational, and transports the listener far from the trite elements of the 'modern' holiday season. No other choral group can compare to the Harry Christophers The Sixteen (named such as the group consists of four treble/mean, four ... Read More:

If you’re seeking a quieter, more restful and (dare I say) traditional form of Christmas Spirit than you’re getting from Slade, Wizzard and Phil Spector, then here’s something very beautiful: a collection of classical, orchestral pieces all themed around the Yuletide season. Victor Hely-Hutchinson’s splendid Carol Symphony (the third movement of which achieved greater fame in the 1980s as the creepy-but-festive theme to the BBC series “The Box Of Delights”) appears here in one of perhaps only two recent (and available) recordings and is beautifully played/ recorded. This alone justifies Naxos’ bargain price!
But let’s not ignore the remaining tracks. Each one is a miniature gem that ... Read More:

After years of listening to the usual American performers/crooners on every Christmas c.d. I could lay my hands on, it's been a great pleasure to hear the traditional English style of singing used to such heart warming effect. Playing this c.d. on Christmas day is going to make myself and my family feel right at home.

Firstly i need to hold my hands up and say that the Flaming Lips are just about my favorite band, so i think this review will be a little over generous to their latest project.
Essentially Wayne Coyne's pet project for the last decade, Christmas On Mars finally gets its release, and i for one am relieved because it will hopefully mean the band will shift focus and release a new album, and then tour it, which lets face it is all that fans like myself really want from the band.
What fans do get is a well conceived package of music and a slightly offbeat science fiction movie that is equally full of the bands trademark, oddness and optimism, whilst maintaining the independence of spirit that the Flaming Lips guard so lovingly. The ... Read More:
Considering Classic FM's skill at producing CDs for almost every occasion, it's no surprise to see this timely release of Christmas songs for the 2007 festivities.
The packaging is of the usual high quality expected of Classic FM, the 2 CDs are in a slim case and wrapped nicely in a card sleeve with (a picture of) a festive red bow on the front which begs to be picked up and bought as a Christmas present. The selection of tracks is well chosen, giving a balanced mix of carols, traditional and modern music.
The carols are all good recordings of popular choices from the back catalogues of The Kings College Choir and the Choir of Westminster Abbey, traditionally sung, with organ accompaniment to some of them.

I'm not what might you call a Tull fan (though I do have their `Broadsword and the Beast', acquired kind of by accident but that's another story). What I am interested in are Christmas albums: while compilation albums are OK (if I can find one containing enough songs not already duplicated in my collection), the ultimate prize for me is a Christmas-themed album recorded as a single body of work, which usually means it is recorded by the same artist (a notable exception being the Phil Spector album), and original material trumps covers of Christmas classics (I can live without yet another version of `Baby it's Cold Outside'). In this respect, `The Jethro Tull Christmas Album' is one of the finest around.
The songs are a mix of re-worked Tull songs ... Read More:
