I purchased the CD on the back of the two previous reviews. However, I must say I found the CD disappointing on two counts. Firstly, the stories could have been better written, and secondly the narrator's voice lacks resonance, age, depth call it what you will. Compared to several CD's I have purchased here in Germany on Greek Sagas, which score high in these two categories, I can't imagine that I will be listening very much to the CD again.

This is an excellent CD to introduce young children to classical music generally , and ballet music in particular. If you are thinking of taking young children to see either of these ballets, then get this CD first and Brian Cant will tell the stories, and the orchestra will play the main themes.
Higly recomended and at a good low price.

I have come to adore Fiddler on the Roof, and the infectious nature of the music has to be heard to be believed.

This new edition with various unheard before moments this is worth purchasing by anyone who loves musicals.

Stravinsky - Rite of Spring; Firebird - Suite

This is one piece of music is revolutionary. Instead of harmony or "tune" as it's content it uses rhythm. Primeval and dark it shows the picture of the tradition rite of spring Stravinsky was trying to show. This is ballet at it's best and at it's most raw. I cannot recommend this music enough. This forms a sort of bridge between the romantic era and the modern movement. Mix this music with works such as Picasso or even impressionists as Renoir washed down with buckets of absinthe and you will see what a revolution in sound and vision (plus resolve!) was going on. Gilbert & Sullivan: The Gold Collection

While not all your favourite G&S tunes have been captured here, this double CD collection certainly represents a fine selection of the duo's best ditties taken from their D'Oyly Carte repertoire and therefore good value for money. The performances are goodish, with one or two slightly below par.

This high quality production of songs recorded between 1961 and 73 emphasises clear vocal enunciation to allow the listener to enjoy Gilbert's witty libretto, slightly at the expense of the slightly muted orchestral sound. Still, credit to Decca for this release, which may help to restore their reputation and open the world of opera bouffe to a new generation.

Debussy stands along Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt as one of the major composers of piano music in history. This album features the "Images" and the "Etudes", which are arguably the most demanding to play and the most intriguingly complex of his compositions for piano solo.
The music presented here should be of interest not just to lovers of classical music, but to jazz lovers, too (not to mention the happy few whose tastes are not guided by labels and categories!). Guitar Virtuosos play Bach

This is a good collection of music by Johann Sebastian Bach. Half of the album consists of his cello suites, being transcribed by Segovia for guitarist John Williams (not to be confused with John Williams the American composer of film music), and the remainder is an assortment of transcriptions, again by Segovia, from other instruments including the violin partitas (spelt incorrectly as `paritia' on the track list) and lute suites.

All the works are lively and happy pieces - the terms such as allemande, courante, sarabande, minuetto, gigue, bouree, gavotte and chaconne have Italian and French origins and are used to describe the rhythm of dance orientated music themes.

Absolutely beautiful! I was first interested by Einaudi's work after hearing Dietro Casa in the concluding scenes of This Is England. Waited a couple of minutes and the credits revealed the artist and song. I haven't stopped listening to his work since. I am gutted to realise that he has recently been to the Royal Albert Hall, and that i missed it. Here's hoping for a hasty return to England...
