Alfie has been incredibly brave as an Englsh singer in producing this CD compiled with neapolitan songs. The usual realm of Italian tenors but Alfie sings amazingly on the album bringing his own youthful style to the songs. The song I know as 'la veste bianca' is a rare delight as well as many of the others on this album. I love the whole CD and think he is the greatest.

Even thought I havent received this yet, the music in the film was the most perfect music i've ever heard! Its weird, it used to be my favourite film when i was a little girl i was obsessed! And 15 years later i watch it again and all of those first time feelings come back. One of the most amazing-est love stories ever written by Tim Burton. The music makes the film perfect. :] Ill always love this film.

This album is a compilation of two recordings made in 1971 and 1978, by two of the greatest classical guitarists ever to have lived, and certainly the two greatest living today. These masters have almost never collaborated, and so these recordings are particularly valuable.

The repertoire here is a beautifully chosen and varied one. It includes pieces that will be familiar to all classical guitar enthusiasts, with compositions by Carulli, Albeniz and Granados. Beethoven - Piano Concertos 1 - 5

I don't know why people apologise on behalf of John Lill. He plays music with such musicality and touch that it's always a joy to hear him play - in particular Beethoven. His playing involves the listener like few other pianists.

I think the Choral Fantasia is one of Ludwig's greatest unsung moments. It has everything from a moody solo piano introduction to an easy going and truly joyous orchestral mid section to a glorious choral finale. Almost like a Jive Bunny compilation of Beethoven in his mid period glory. Wonderful! It's worth the price of the discs for this piece alone!

The sound quality is very good, bordering on excellent.

Puccini: Tosca

Sorry, this might upset some other reviewers and 'purists' but I have to say as good as this recording is, and it is, callas does give a good performance, but it doesn't light a candle to the 1962 Karajan recording on decca legends with Leontyne price as Tosca she is absolutely stunning in the role, I defy anyone not to be moved and have the hairs go up on the back of their neck when they listen to her vissi d'arte(my ultimate favourite opera aria), so do yourself a favour and get that cd now! You won't regret it.

This isn't the first example of Michael Nyman's cinema work I've bought - I fell in love with the score for The Piano, and I bought the soundtrack for Gattaca without every sitting through the whole film. This double CD is a brilliant opportunity to experience a whole raft of soundtracks he's been involved with over the 20-odd years this covers. Some of the individual film soundtracks sadly do not appear to be available, but even a single track as featured here for some films is better than nothing.

It makes a change to hear a collection of familiar music sung by a baritone rather than the more popular tenor and Bryn fans should be pleased with the selection of music, it's a good range of styles, with the emphasis on classical and opera excerpts plus a few traditional folk style songs. Bryn's voice works well on the opera favourites like Bizet's Toreador song (lots of rolling r's here) and sounds good with Andrea Bocelli on The Pearl Fishers duet `Au Fond du temple saint'. The folk songs and traditional like `Swing Low, Sweet Chariot' and `Danny Boy' are well suited to the deep baritone voice, and the `Ave Maria' duet with Sissel is an unusual ... Read More:

This disc is a bit of an oddity. I can give it a perfectly sincere recommendation, but I think I had better explain myself carefully, and explain exactly what I am recommending.

The spirit of the selection is much what you would expect in a disc entitled `Christmas Treats from JSB' or `Immortal Melodies from The Christmas Oratorio' or something of that sort. Bach's Christmas Oratorio is not an oratorio in the Handelian sense. In the 1730's Bach faithfully turned out a cantata for each Sunday and major feast, but in one particular year he elected to reprocess some of his older music, most of it secular originally, and string the numbers together for the entire festive season under the overall title of `Christmas Oratorio'.
