Dane Cook is quickly becoming a favourite of mine. I picked up "Harmful if Swallowed" without hearing a single routine by the man. I love to give new comics that I've never heard of a chance and to see what happens. This was another one of those occasions where I chose wisely, because Dane Cook is HILARIOUS. "Harmful if Swallowed" is a fantastic comedy album/DVD.

Cook is a very physical comedian. His facial expressions and his non-stop running around the stage really enhances his performance. He's very energetic and charismatic. What else is great is that he has complete and total faith in his material. The execution of it all is timed perfectly.

What Becomes a Semi Legend Most?

For an album recorded way back in 1983, this is surely standing the test of time. Hysterical, with Rivers on top obnoxious form, slating everything from the Royals, marriage, childbirth etc. Her recent material is cruder, ruder and funnier because of it. The restraints of 1983 are in place, and you feel that she would have liked to [and could have if she dared] go further with the material. This is one that gets an airing every so often and still raises more than an odd chuckle. Well worth buying if you are either a Rivers fan or a fan of female comedians. She can still show so called comedians like Dawn French a trick or three.

The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back

After listening to almost every single one of Bob Newhart's recordings, I feel that I am qualified to comment on them.

This particular CD is, in my humble opinion, one of the better ones. The tracks on there are hilarious ranging from the absolute genious of "The Retirement Party" to the zany comedy of "Infinite number of Monkeys". This compilation definately has it all.

Not only is there quality of content but also quality of sound. I hate listening to CD's by artists from long ago where the recording is poor. So it was with great relief that I found the sound to be crystal clear!

I would rate any of Bob Newhart's CD's extremely highly but I think that this particular one deserves perhaps that tiny amount more ... Read More:

Bestiality of Bonzo Dog Band

The quality of the Bonzo Dog Band are apparent in this album, however, I feel what this compilation lacks is the consistancy required to make a good album, as there are a few tracks from their weakest, and final album, 'Let's make up and be friendly'. This would make a better album, and would be a more fitting tribute if it stuck to the plan of putting their good songs on it, rather than the ones they were contracted to produce later in the band's career.

This 'bestiality' lacks gems such as:

Look out There's a Monster Coming! Laughing Blues Death Cab for Cutie

and other tracks from their seminal album, 'Gorilla'.

The story behind "Lather" is probably better known than the CD itself-you know,FZ tried to get a four album set released by Warner Bros,who wouldn't do so.Took to another label,who then backed out.Went to an FM station in Los Angeles,and played the whole lot to any would-be bootleggers.It all came out in dribs and drabs,sometimes censored,in formats FZ didn't approve,between 1978-79.

Even more filth dirt cheap, a welcome return on CD from the original filthy monkey himself. As most of my old tapes of the classic albums had either been stolen by those who covet mucky songs, or turned to cassette dust (as these things tend to do) I was as pleased as Esther Rantzen at a rude vegetable contest to see this 'un available. This is top banana music from a time when you could play these songs at top volume and your neighbour would only ask where he could buy them from himself. A great collection of songs on "Fruity Bits" there is, although while I appreciate that it's not possible to please everyone all of the time, would it have killed him to include "My Brother's Magazine" in with the rest? Burnt Weeny Sandwich

This was just about the last of the original MOI albums("Weasels" was released after they and FZ split)and it is my all time favourite album,not just by FZ but by anybody.
Two covers of 1950s doowop(WPLJ and Valarie)are the bread,the sandwich is the remainder,fantastic instrumentals showing both the Mothers in full flight(mostly in the studio,but some bits,ie the guitar solo in "Holiday in Berlin Full Blown",spliced in from live shows),FZ's blossoming as a guitarist,and lastly his abilities as a composer and bandleader.Highlights are hard to pick out as the music is so good,but "Holiday In Berlin Full Blown","Aybe Sea"(a rare example of FZ playing auocustic guitar)and the piano solo followed by the full force of the MOI at the begining of "Little House I ... For years I have wanted a cd of Spike and now I have a PC and just made my first transaction I am amazed by the speed and quality of service. It is so good to hear the tracks as they should be instaed of an old 45 record. Well done all, I will be shopping again in the near future
