Five CDs that can't help but make you smile. Look, it's George Formby, you know what you're going to get. But on so many levels I was still suprised. Once I got used to the scratchy recordings (especially on his earlier work) and put it in the context of 1920s/30s music hall it became very obvious exactly why Formby had such a huge following. His syncopated banjolele style is a joy to listen to - the boy could play. There is far more depth to these recordings than is first apparant. Oooh Mother!

I bought this album because I was told that it was a good 'first album' for Frank fans. Although I have a few others, I thought that one that is billed as accessible might be worth having. I was disappointed.
I did enjoy it and there are some good songs on there, most notably the title track but if like me you are a fan of the anarchic humour and musicianship of Sheik Yerbouti then this will disappoint you as it did me.
Yes, it's a good album and worth listening to, but I would not rate it as one of FZ's best and think that there are better places for the new fan to become acquainted with his work.

this album is not the greatest of Zappa albums but some songs are a particular highlight e.g "Rudy" because of the wit involved in the lyrics by Frank Zappa and the characters of Flo and Eddie. The best song has to be "Road Ladies" with Zappa on fine form on vocals and the bluesy guitar work making the song one of the most interesting in FZ's career. The poorest song on the album has to be "Would you all go away" because of the poor lyrical content involved.

Weird, isn't it..... There are some things that stay with you in life, and those that drift in and out. I used to think that Foo Foo was in the distant past of my life. However, after discovering Mike sticking these on CD, my family and I have been reunited.
Whilst Mike's present (for most) consists of the folk scene, his past is rooted in all sorts of things: Comedy, Folk, Singing, The Outdoor. The comic in him is sometimes evident in his Radio 2 show, but in listening to Foo Foo you'll see his real comedy genuis....
Great comedy and still has me laughing after nearly twenty years
Shame his books aren't available (When the Martians Land in Huddersfield, for example)

This is a mixture of music recorded live and(mostly)in the studio in New York in 1967.The MOI are now in their prime, and the range of styles they play is amazing-remember though,as FZ points out,"This is basically an instrumental album".
Highlights?"King Kong"in all it's majesty, the weird, almost chamber music sound of "Dog Breath Variations",the wonderfully silly vocals of "The Air",Suzy Creamcheese pointing out the risks of the rock lifestyle when it comes to groupies-"We had fleas and lots of crabs, and proceeded to give them to everyone in Laurel Canyon"-,FZ playing aoucustic guitar(a rarity indeed)Ian Underwood whipping it out in Copenhagen, there's something for all the family in this album.
However, there's also a second disc which is a soundtrack ... Read More:

This is an album that I play very often as it's one of my more upbeat rock albums and this is not so common. The singles on this album are amazing and can be played constantly without getting boring - much like the album actually. I've seen them live and they are very funny and some bits on this album had me giggling first time round to.
Some of the songs on this have a dance feel to it like the single Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss... whereas there is still the moshing tunes like the brilliant Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo.
I would recommend this album to all as you don't have to be in to this sort of music to enjoy this album.

I had never heard of Mitch until I listened to this stand up show and I can't get enough of it. He is absolutely hilarious from start to finish as he finds incredible comedy from within even the most mundane topics. His laid back style and relaxed presentation will make him an instant favourite with anyone that trys this cd out.
If I could give it more stars I would, it's just such a shame he had to die so young.

This would be an interesting compilation with some less common songs by Spike. However it is ruined by over-zealous digital 're-mastering' which has created a very harsh echo-y sound which completely spoils the listening experience. NOT RECOMMENDED.
