Yes this is a compilation of already well known material, and any Monty Python fan will know this stuff backwards already. But it's good material. It's funny. And it stands up to repeated listening, which is no mean feat when it comes to comedy. Some of the sketches feel a little bit like they're trying to bang a square peg into a round hole (e.g. 'Bells') but they are in the minority. Most of this album sounds effortless. Interspersed with some songs and some clips from the soundtrack of The Holy Grail, the sketches on this CD stand up for what they are: well written, hilarious, absurd and thought-provoking. The Life of Brian's popularity as one of the best known and loved comedy films is often overshadowed by the controversy it sparked even before it went into production. EMI famously pulled out of the project after been pressurised by Mary Whitehouse's moral majority organisation and the threat of been charged with breaching the blasphemy laws. The production was saved by George Harrison setting up Handmade Films to finance the venture and bring it to the screen.

The soundtrack album was for many the only way to hear, if not see, the film until the advent of video rental shops with its limited run and it's being banned from television for a decade.

2. The album has one of the most crude,rude and wonderful songs in the whole of FZ's career "Dinah moe hum".
3. Frank Zappa's lyrics are strong and assured aswell as his beautiful guitar work.

Not a Peter Sellers fan at all (especially hated the Pink Panther films) before I heard a snippit of this CD on the radio, but I am now, especially "We'll Let You Know" which is British humour at its best. Tells the tale of a theatre audition and you can hear both what's happening on stage and what the two guys holding the audition are doing / saying simulataneously. Superb use of Stereo. Worth it for this sketch alone. Love the rest to and can now understand why Sellers had the huge following he did when he was alive. Buy one. Dry wit doesn't come better than this.
