Although I really enjoyed the music,I did find a lot of the tracks very fast to keep up with being a complete beginner. You either have to go ultra slow or extremely fast.I found there were only a few tracks that went at the right speed to comfortably practice as a novice. Will keep it for when I'm an expert! If anyone out ther knows of a CD with a more suitable for beginners, please let me know.

Ok...so I'm new to the folk scene, but what an introduction. Excellent!!

As a professional concert pianist for the last thirty years or so, it was a great relief to find that they have released everything you need on 2 CDs. Sure enough, since I bought it I have been able to discard the 1000 or so CDs that I had collected of performers like Cortot, Horowitz, Rachmaninoff and Schnabel (and I now have enough room for a pool table!). They are simply not necessary when you have these two CDs.
Considering Classic FM's skill at producing CDs for almost every occasion, it's no surprise to see this timely release of Christmas songs for the 2007 festivities.
The packaging is of the usual high quality expected of Classic FM, the 2 CDs are in a slim case and wrapped nicely in a card sleeve with (a picture of) a festive red bow on the front which begs to be picked up and bought as a Christmas present. The selection of tracks is well chosen, giving a balanced mix of carols, traditional and modern music.
The carols are all good recordings of popular choices from the back catalogues of The Kings College Choir and the Choir of Westminster Abbey, traditionally sung, with organ accompaniment to some of them. ... Read More:
A well chosen selection of 26 mostly familiar pieces of orchestral music on 2Ds which, judging by the title and the album cover, is intended to make you feel good and smile.
I found the choices a good mix of familiar, like Handel's Zadok the Priest, Haydn's Cello Concerto No.2 and Vivaldi's Gloria, along with slightly less familiar but equally welcome pieces such as the orchestral arrangement of David Bowie's Life on Mars and Elgar's lesser played Finale from his Enigma Variations (it will be instantly recognisable to Classic FM listeners as one of the short jingles used on their radio show).
As usual Classic FM have introduced the big names, Hayley Westenra and David Garrett included, and chosen good recordings ... Read More:

This album is a rarity in modern soundtracks - it doesn't incorporate any "inspired by" tracks in place of the music from the film that made you buy the album in the first place.
Bill Conti's music is cool and classy, blends of soulful jazz, carribean music and lounge style tunes. It also includes original recordings of "sinnerman" by Nina Simone - a masterpiece in its own right, and Sting's version of "windmills of my mind" which is an intelligent revisioning of the 1960s original.
This is the sort of album one could play at a dinner party or quietly with a glass of single malt. The Wasis Diop track is a masterpiece which may well lead you to some of his other albums the eponymous "Everything... is never quite enough" or "No Sant" ... Read More:

As my friend says "You've got all these tracks but in a different order".
In this case it's only partly right but to a 60's Soul fan and a regular at the Hammersmith Palais on a Monday night this collection brings back some fabulous memories. I think that they are nearly all there.
Also memories of Ready Steady Go on a Friday night which had the catchphrase "The weekend starts here".

I can understand some folk purists wanting to hate this before they've even heard it, and it could have ended up as a complete dogs breakfast. Yes if they'd given the whole undertaking to Bellowhead it might have been a classic, but on the whole it's not turned out too bad, and there's something to be said for the eclectic nature of the thing.
I'll have nothing said against Baby Gramps, he's a fine guitarist and that's no affectation, he really does sound like Popeye's drunken brother. Surprisingly of the "Big Names" Sting makes the best fist of his effort. I say surprising because he strikes me as the most unlikeable of people. Unsurprisingly Bono misses the point completely, and confirms that he is now completely and utterly up himself. ... Read More:
