From the Underworld of British Psychedelia comes another significant release.
This really is an essential purchase for lovers of late sixties British Psychedelia. Essentially it is an extension of Mojo`s Fab Set "Acid Drops, Spacedust & Flying Saucers". Where selections are familiar to the listener the compilation concentrates on alternate takes. There are no less than 6 unreleased items of considerable interest and the set concentrates on listing the tracks in chronological order. Highlights include but are not limited to the following: The Title Track by The Orange Machine, Lady Caroline by Velvet Fog, Love, Hate, Revenge by Episode Six (including Ian Gillan & Roger Glover), Circles by The Fleur De Lys & Lullaby by ... Having purchased the first CD in the series (now extended to three), I decided to try the second volume - and I have not been disappointed!
The standard has been maintained with some great artists and songs, all with strong guitar influences. Many were already well-known such as Bread's Guitar Man, The Cars' My Best Friends Girl and Cream's White Room but the more popular numbers have been interspersed with some arguably lesser known tracks such as Stony Road (Chris Rea), Don't Believe A Word (Gary Moore) and the impressive Whirlpools End from Paul Weller. I haven't heard Mott's All The Young Dudes for years and still sounds as good today as it did away back then! Such diversity has prevented this particular ... Read More:

This cd was purchased for my son, it very well maybe the worst cd I've come across for children, starting with "Jake the Peg" by Rolf Harris, apparently Jake the peg had three legs, and when he was a baby his father found it difficult to put his nappy on... No I'm not joking this is on the first track of the cd! This cd struck me as more of an adult comedy skit, Im trying in some way to end on a positive note...

I was born in 1986 and after hearing a few of the genre-defining tracks from the Disco era I was really interested in hearing more from the time and genre. I purchased Disco Fever Vol.1 because it had a wide selection of tracks and looked to be decent value for money, and the album didn't dissapoint. There are so many fantastic tracks on here that it was hard for me not to fall in love with Disco music! The artists included are varied (not just back to back Sister Sledge or Chic for example, like some other compilations) and the tracks included provide a comprehensive portfolio of Disco music, from it's humble beginnings to it's worldwide strong hold on the industry and finally to it's final classics. A very strong compilation that's the best I've seen ... Read More:

The annual globe-hopping compilation from writer and broadcaster Charlie Gillett is a showcase for both headline stars and obscure gems. It's no surprise, then, to find tracks from stars like Toumani Diabaté, Orchestre Baobab, Israels Yasmin Levy or Uzbek diva Sevara Nazarkhan, but the oddities are often as arresting. Here's a reggaematic Romanian love song from Germany and the yearning tones of Australia-based Tartar singer Zulya. Beautifully sequenced, the 34 tracks from 28 countries make clear that the world's music (not world music) is increasingly hybridised and perennially fascinating.
