This album is a rarity in modern soundtracks - it doesn't incorporate any "inspired by" tracks in place of the music from the film that made you buy the album in the first place.
Bill Conti's music is cool and classy, blends of soulful jazz, carribean music and lounge style tunes. It also includes original recordings of "sinnerman" by Nina Simone - a masterpiece in its own right, and Sting's version of "windmills of my mind" which is an intelligent revisioning of the 1960s original.
This is the sort of album one could play at a dinner party or quietly with a glass of single malt. The Wasis Diop track is a masterpiece which may well lead you to some of his other albums the eponymous "Everything... is never quite enough" or "No Sant" ... Read More:

This is of course the sound track to the Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore romantic comedy Music and Lyrics. If you've seen the film and enjoyed it, you'll love this. It's got all the versions described in the blurb on the Amazon item, and although I inevitably skip all of the quite frankly terrible (but deliberately so, so it's not that bad) Cora Corman songs, I really, really love the ones that involved Hugh Grant.
They include the brilliantly bad 80s records by his character's band Pop, joyous in their accurate send up of the 80s pop scene, bad because they are more schmaltzy than you can imagine. The only songs which are really good for their own sake are the two versions of Way Back Into Love, and Don't Write Me Off. I can be incredibly girly ... Read More:

I bought this because I have always been a fan of dance music and Cream. I usually know a lot of the tunes but can't always remember what they are called so was not put off by not recognising a lot of the song titles on the CD. The TV advert relating to this product played a montage of songs that I know so I thought "great" - but, regrettably, this is no different from any other compilation CD in that there is a handful of popular memorable tunes (as heard on the advert) then a load of album-like dross. Doesn't represent 10 years of Cream very well - I would expect to know all the tunes -or at least most of them because there have been some BIG banging tunes in the last 10 years - If you have money to burn then go for it but personally I am annoyed that ... I have a number of classic fm albums, and this one was the first real disappointment. Less of an 'anthem fest', more of an 'oh yes, that is not a bad tune'.
For me it is the audio equivalent of a film I saw many years ago called 'good guys wear black'. The advertising poster looked great - 6 scenes of excitinbg action portrayed. When I watched the film, they were the only scenes of any interest in the entire movie.
The adverts for this album were a bit like that for me.

This is a very good CD, with a good mix of songs and artists. There is a good mix of old and new, with new songs like Bad Day by Daniel Pouter and nine million bicycles by Katie Melua and older tunes like your song by Elton John and Perfect Day by Lou Reed. Personally I think the 1st CD is a little bit better than the 2nd CD, but both CDs are very good. The general tone of the album is of easier music which is very easy to listen to and often leaves you feeling better than when you started. There are 38 tracks in total on the album, 20 on the 1st CD and 18 on the 2nd, which will give you over 2 hours of music to listen and enjoy. If you want a compilation album with a set of songs that you haven't heard in a while and with very good singers then this is the ... Read More:
