I loved wathing the film and wanted to have the soundtrack because it helped make the film feel so good. It has got one track missing from the film though but it not a problem to get as it's by Bananarama. Considering how old the film is now the music does not sound dated and the last track on the album " The Best " never stops me from thinking about the competition fights at the end of the film. if you liked the film you will not be disapointed.

Lately, Glass seems to have been composing works in the style of what will probably be known as his "late" period, and they're among the finest he's ever written. This release is probably the culmination of this style to date, a dark, beautiful series of pieces for solo cello. The first of these is barely recognisable as Glass at all, with echoes of Bach in particular, and it takes a few listens to get your head around the structure as a whole. It's unquestionably a Great piece of music - that's great with a capital "G". More instant is Tissues, reworkings of pieces from the Naqoyquaatsi soundtrack, but these too have gathered depth in their revised form. An essential purchase, even for Glass-haters: this could be the one to convert you.

It is such a big film that I doubt anyone has not seen it, but...if imagine you have never seen the film then this would be one of the best classical recording ever. Great film; even greater music.

Marco Polo has been doing a great job in reintroducing the sort of light music that aficianados of a certain age, such as me, thought would never be revived. It isn't surprising that a sampler CD from the catalogue has appeared at Naxos price. That said, this is rather a mixed bag. It's good to hear the old familiar tunes come tumbling out--the only one new to me was Sketch of a Dandy and I loved it instantly. And I have to admire the way that the overseas orchestras capture the English light music idiom so effectively. But the delightful Vanity Fair sounds much too thin, Roses of Picardy and the Tom Jones waltz really need their words and Marigold would have been far better left as a piano solo than worked up into such an overblown arrangement. ... Amazing, the music really takes you back to the film and it is incredibly upseting, the haunting bagpipes and flutes. It even has speeches included from the film, ah you listen to the sensual, deep sexy voice of Mel Gibson, ah heaven! Oh yeah and the famous freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedom part is on as well and if you turn that up really high on your cd player it shakes the whole house! I honestly cannot listen to it with out breaking down in tears as it really brings the film back to you! The composer is James Horner who, may i add composed Titanic and Willow so you know it's got to be good! It also includes tradditional Scottish Bagpipe music! So get your skates on and start ordering now or YOU will be the one who is missing out on such a atmospheric, breathtaking ... Read More:

Music in Twelve Parts was Glass's summation of, and farewell to, the 'minimalism' that saw the first flowerings of his genius. It is both minimalism in extremis and a decisive move away from it's limitations. It is very long, very rhythmic and very beautiful.
This latest recording comes from a live performance in Italy in 2006. It runs to 204 minutes. The sound quality is a wonder, just a hint of reverb and a beautiful clarity.
The performance is a revelation, fitting as four of the seven performers have been playing this sequence for thirty years now. They've got good at it, very good, with none of the staleness that can mar the performance of over familiar works. Twin threads of energy and calm weave into each other, neither canceling the other out. ... Read More:

This is a wonderfully successful collection of pieces.
Collections of this type are not my normal cup of tea (more Beethoven Quartets and the like) but this is very beautiful indeed. Well selected pieces, well played in excellent sound. It would be a waste if this was played only in the car. A real gem!
