Ennio Morricone pioneered a type of soundtrack composition in which diegetic noises (such as the harmonica in "Once Upon A Time in The West", or, less musically, whips and gunshots) became a key textural element in the score. Most soundtrack albums attempt to remove these noises and leave as clean a piece of music as possible, but Zorn's tribute to Morricone goes to an opposite extreme: there is no aspect of noise that is alien to this album, and as such it is a surprisingly "faithful" hommage. The opening track is in practice an entire Spaghetti Western compressed into seven minutes, featuring a series of events and cues that the listener is encouraged to reconstitute for him- or herself. "Peur Sur La Ville" is a taut thriller, with the appropriate ... Read More:

Imagine snow on the ground, logs on the fire burning, christmas trees lit up and the cold breath of carol singers singing in the night. The CD is very evokative of Christmas past. Made me reminisant of my childhood (not that long ago). Best ever CD available for Christmas. The Choir (Guildford Cathedral) is amazing. Brings a tear every time i listen. The music from the BBC programme Box of Delights used track 3 for its theme tune. This CD is hard to get hold of. HIGHLY recomended.

Okay, so the one-line summary is silly. Don't let it into your system. This album (that derives from her BBC series) is a true joy. Songs that have impacted us, body and soul such as "La Vie En Rose", 20th century composers that go perennial ("You'll Never Walk Alone") and arias you probably listened to a hundred times before you got to know they were called "Parigi O Cara" or hymns you've known since time began ("Amazing Grace/Nearer My God To Thee") or even the odd exotic gem such as "Bachianas Brasileiras" And any singer daring to approach this kind of music - plus lyrics in English, Italian, French, German and Portuguese - gets the most eager thumbs up from me anytime. Just check it out!

Director Christopher Nolan dispenses with the services of his regular Minimalist/Ambient composer, David Julyan, in favour of Hollywood heavyweights, Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, who ironically come up with a very Julyan-esque score. Dark and austere, like Nolan's masterful film, these atmospheric Minimalist pieces are a million miles from the whimsy of Danny Elfman and the bombast of Elliot Goldenthal, and come across like Philip Glass on steroids. Just as Nolan reinvented the Batman franchise, Zimmer and Howard create a totally original soundscape to complement the movie.
Bleak, disturbing and thrilling this is film scoring of the highest order.

I'm not a music expert or anything like that. i just know that I like a good melody and pleasant sounds. I listen to this music in the car together with my 8 year old son and it puts a smile on both our faces. When ever I play this CD, anyone that hears it enjoys it's melodies and I keep havingt to buy it for my friends. This music is timeless and certainly sells Quincy Jones as a guy with a good ear for arranging different sounds and tempos within a piece of music. We can't get enough of the trumpets on No 3 i.e "Desafinado". We love the percussions in "Samba de Una Nota So" i.e tract 7. The flutes on track 9 and the trumpets on track 9 we could listen to over and over again. You can't go wrong with this music. My Dad is 70, I'm in my forties and my son is 8 and ... Read More:
