It's been a great year for country music fans with superb new releases from big names like Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, and Brad Paisley. And now to end the year here's the new one from Trace Adkins!
Trace's last release ("Dangerous Man" from about 18 months ago) was a great album but was slightly less country than one would expect, with lots of heavy guitar. On "X", although those guitars are still in evidence, the 'usual suspects' of country music are much more to the fore. I don't think you could call this album ground-breaking - Adkins knows the market he's aiming to and produces the goods to please them. Some of the songs will have you thinking, "Hmm, have I heard this one before?" but it doesn't stop it being lots of fun. ... Read More:

[One CD, with a running time of 65:02 minutes.] The golden tones of Anne Murray have been a companion of mine for many years, and with this CD that will continue. This CD has 20 songs totaling up to over an hours worth of Anne's great songs! Many old friends are here, such as Snowbird and Danny's Song, and there are some that I am not at all familiar with, such as Over You. Over You is a great addition, in that it was released as a single, and is not on any other album (as far as I know), including the three CD Now & Forever boxed set!
This is a great CD for any Anne Murray, or anyone who simply like listening to wonderful singing (dare I say, "crooning"?) Highly recommended!

Kasey Chambers has the kind of clear and piercing voice that one might expect for a female Country singer, yet this album will constantly surprise you. For a start this is NOT strictly a Country record at all as on a good few of the tracks there's not a slide guitar in sight! Opener 'Cry Like A Baby' is probably the nearest thing to a hit single on the album and get's proceedings off to a great start. Kasey's voice at times sounds like a mature woman and in others a little girl. This is a most charming attribute and the whimsy and fragility in both her voice and her lyrics will get to you at times throughout this record. This is especially the case on the title track, an acoustic, dreamy, reflective and thoughtful song which, if you happen to be a single ... Read More:

Really, I don't want to use many words here since this review was only triggered by a previous one downgrading the record to 3 stars despite saying "a fun listen and much better recorded than most [live recordings]". This implies that the Dixie Chicks Top of the World Tour would be just mediocre (that's what the middle of 5 stars means) while it is so much better. Said review goes on "The impact of their songs is based on a very emotive vocal style [...] beautifully underpinned by a high level of indiviual playing [...]. That is lost to a great extent" - that's just a lot of tosh. Musicianship and vocals are all there. If you want intimacy then listen to the studio recordings - after all, most of the songs are out there as studio versions, except Mississippi ... Read More:

Brad Paisley is now one of the leading artist's in country music and this debut is where it all began!!
He opens the album with a cracking electric guitar solo on Long Sermon then there's his hits Me Neither and the title track Who Needs Pictures. Also included is his first no.1 hit,the very touching He Didn't Have To Be and his second no.1 We Danced, a lovely romantic ballad.
Other standouts are the excellent uptempos Don't Breathe and the very funny Sleepin' On The Foldout. He ends the album with the beautifully arranged gospel classic In The Garden-lovely fiddle solo.
An excellent debut that showed a huge country star in the making....

Fantastic CD. I have all of Kenny's Cd's and this is arguably the best yet. Every track is written from the heart and gives a real insight into the man behind the songs. Agreed, there is a Caribbean lilt to most of the tracks but that is quite obviously where is heart is. The Country/Caribbean mix is dreamy and perfectly matched, lets face it not a new thing for Kenny. If you are a new country fan and happy to see the music we love evolve you will love this album. I think it is worthy of an award and havent stopped playing it since it arrived. Over the last year I have been concentrating on Josh Turner, Billy Currington and Rodney Atkins, (check them all out if you havent already !), but they are not getting a look in for the moment. Get it you wont regret it !

Shania will coax you out of your shell and make your world come alive. Her soaring vocals rise above the arresting instrumentation and bring to life perhaps her most potent lyrical offerings ever. There is something profoundly captivating in her smokey voice. The cigarettes-and-coffee rasp puts one in mind of a late-career Sarah Vaughan. The album explores themes of love, despair, doubt, redemption, salvation and the consoling powers of intimate companionship. Woman In Me is an intriguing title but also, through the casual suggestiveness of the lyrical nuances, it invites suggestions that the listener can be themselves invited into that woman, so to speak, both in a figurative sense and also in an incarnate sense. Rarely has a singer managed to combine so much so ... Read More:

I don't know how but Faith Hill just cant produce a bad song. This is top stuff. Like her other albums, this has fantastic song after the other. Its got sad stuff that helps you think when your feeling a bit down and amazing up beat country rock which will have you moving weather you like it or not.
The way in which Faith Hill sings country rock is outstanding. This album has some of the best songs ever written, so does her other albums.
You cant go wrong with this.
