I just wish I could award more than 5 stars for this album and this band. They are QUALITY, thru and thru. I alternate between Rascal Flatts albums in my car and frankly, no other music is getting played at all. I've already got my next one on order but it's not released for another 2 weeks - aagghh!
My recommendation: If you have any inkling at all towards modern, contemporary country (or you just like a damn good song) BUY, BUY, BUY - you will not be disappointed.

I love Lonestar. I love the way their music is slightly edgy country - very modern. They sing about home values, about family and about leaving their wild ways behind them now they've found the love of a good woman. Some songs will have you singing along, others will make you cry. Great stuff.

Bette Midler had the big international hit, Cliff Richard had a big UK hit and Kathy Mattea recorded a country version (albeit with bagpipes) but Nanci Griffith recorded the original version of From a distance. Although Nanci wrote much of her own material, this is one that she didn't write. Nevertheless, it gave Nanci a massive career boost and remains the song that she is best remembered for.

This was the first of four albums that Nanci recorded for MCA. Note that all four have been re-packaged as a double-CD in the UK although they vary in style so some people may still prefer to buy this as a separate CD. I love Martina McBride so I'm a little biased!!but I absolutely love this album.
We've all heard these songs loads of times but it is Martina's voice that makes this an outstanding album.She sounds incredible,with a real classic production of the songs such as an orchestra and choir background vocals.
I also love that she picked mostly hymns instead of the more commercial xmas songs.Such as the beautiful O Holy Night,What Child Is This,Do You Hear What I Hear and O Come All Ye Faithful-where she uses her famous powerhouse vocals!She also does a fantastic job on the classic Xmas songs,like Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas ,The Christmas Song and she does a really catchy version of Jingle Bells.

This is that jackpot album the Mavericks were waiting for. You'd be forgiven for not having heard of them, as until Trampoline, they used to be filed under Country & Western. Actually the band is from Miami, they just do their thing in Nashville!
With each successive album (and since I discovered Trampoline, I've bought the rest!) they've gone less C&W, and more mainstream. On this one they've added a great horn section to give a latin flavour, and boy do they have fun!
Raul Malo, their lead singer has one of those voices that's clear as a bell, and soars effortlessly into falsetto as Roy Orbison's did, and Chris Isaak's does now. The musicianship from all is absolutely top class on ballads, and the foot tappers.

That Lonesome Song

Had heard of Jamey Johnson only as a song writer.This cd is outstanding the song content, his voice, the backing musicians, the overall production - the best country album I've purchased for years. This should win 'album of the year'. Fully recommend to any lover of good music, country fan or not.
