Alabama's first Christmas album is a fairly mellow album overall, though the pace picks up occasionally. It avoids all the obvious songs, being filled almost entirely with original material. As far as I know, the only cover is Tennessee Christmas, a brilliant song written by Amy Grant, which has also been covered by several other singers.

The songs cover all aspects of Christmas. Joseph and Mary's boy caters for the religious aspect. Thistlehair the Christmas bear is a great song for children. Alabama always like to praise the southern states, so we not only get Tennessee Christmas but also Christmas in Dixie – another brilliant song. With so many singers around these days, it is rare to find one that is truly distinctive, but Vince's superb tenor voice is unlike any other in country music. This collection covers the period from 1990 to 1993, when he was at the peak of his career. Actually, his peak lasted a little longer - one more album (When love finds you), after which Vince continued to make great albums without ever achieving the same level of success.

Having only recently purchased this one I am a little late reveiwing its content. But I am glad I found it, I really rate every track. I believe it's a 2001 release but the music sounds really good and recent, no bad tracks, great lyrics and great music. Anyone who enjoys easy listening, maybe Radio 2 sounds, will enjoy this album. Top, top quality, may take a couple of plays on some tracks. The themes come out strongly in the music, but don't be put off by this theme thing, and the picture of Dickey Chapelle within the album sleeve; well she looks good but I must admin I did not know she existed! Sorry Nanci. Nice photos too - but great album.

Most Alan Jackson albums could be categorised as Friday afternoon beer offerings. They don't tend to be particularly subtle (though that is often quite a refreshing thing) and they're best consumed with a side order of fries. What's different here is that what is on offer is much more of a late night red wine smooth affair. Put it on before bedtime and it may soothe you but it's a lot less hick than Jackson's usual fare.

'Like Red on a Rose' requires a different listening mood to other Jackson albums and it is a welcome temporary change of direction. That said I'll be as happy as anyone else to listen to another album of songs about broken trucks, Friday afternoon beer or biscuits and gravy. Honest.

Heart Like a Wheel

I first bought this on import cassette in the 70s on the strength of the single 'You're No Good'. Over 30 years later, it's still my favourite album. I think her version of 'Willing' (the Little Feat song) is the most uplifting song I've ever heard. The last two tracks, 'Keep Me From Blowing Away' and 'You Can Close Your Eyes', are stunning. There are no low points on the album. Linda Ronstadt is a brilliant singer with a unique ability to cover a huge range of different material. This is her best record, in my opinion, and a fantastic place to start for anyone wishing to buy one of her records.

Horse of a Different Color

I could write a long dull account about the guys but it would never do this album Justice. From the rocked up Rollin' to Holy Water; the most moving song i've heard for as long time.

All the tracks are masterpieces in their own right so this album is truely brilliant. Whatever your musical taste, this cd would be a great addition to your musical collection.
SO JUST BUY IT!!

The Wolf

Im a great fan of Southern Rock : Hank Jr, Skynyrd, Toby Keith, Trace Adkins etc etc, but I just discovered this fella and Its blown me away. He takes influences from all the above but is definitely individual... I wont go into it any further than to say Buy This Album - you wont be sorry. Needless to say I will be collecting his other albums in about two minutes from now!
