Very special acoustic Christmas

This is the sixth in the series of special Christmas albums dedicated to raising money for the Special Olympics, but this one is very different from previous albums that generally featured pop and rock music. This album, as its title suggests, features acoustic country and bluegrass music. As far as I know, all the recordings are new although some of the artists have recorded their chosen songs previously. Many of the songs here will be familiar to you but the simple acoustic settings featured here allow the singers to bring out the true meaning of each song

I love Brad Paisley so naturally I adore all his albums and for good reason too.Because the man is simply brilliant!!He always makes an amazing album.
5th Gear includes 4 no.1 hits with the extremely witty uptempos Ticks,Online and I'm Still A Guy(a very funny reference between men & women-so true)and the reflective ballad Letter To Me,You can so relate to this song.
Other gems is the superb electric guitar filled ballad It Did and the cracking bluegrass themed song Mr.Policeman.Brad and his band really let loose on this one.Plus the Grammy winning instrumental Throttleneck and the gorgeous gospel song When We All Get To Heaven ends this excellent collection of songs just nicely.

This is smooth sensual songcraft at its best, and that is why I suggest that the album, with its dark lyrics, is best enjoyed by sharing the musical ecstacy withsomeone else! KD Lang's lush voice washes over you like warm oil!
There are lots of strings, and quite a few Eastern influences here and there I thought. One to play again and again ( but not in the car - seriously - it's late night music.

As a huge BNC fan, I find this fifth album a bit of a mixed bag. Happily, Beth's voice is returning to its former glory after dipping a bit in Deeper Still (understandably given her health - but then the sheer musicality of some of the songs on DS more than made up for it). But whereas each of the previous four albums had unique musical identities, this one doesn't. If I had to sum it up, I'd say it seems to be a collection of all the songs they couldn't squeeze onto the first four, plus a few others.

One of BNC's qualities I most admire is how her songs and arrangements never show all the cards in the first verse/chorus: you always have to listen to the entire song; either for the lyrics, the descants, the musical embellishments, etc. Unfortunately ... Read More:

The thing that strikes me the most about Kellie's sophomore album is how mature she sounds.Her songwriting and vocals have become a whole lot stronger since her debut album Small Town Girl.These last two years touring has really paid off for her.She's also changed her sound a little,it's a more radio friendly pop/country.But Kellie really pulls it off nicely!
It includes the first single Don't You Know You're Beautiful(great lyrics to this,very empowering) and the current single Best Days Of Your Life,co-written with Taylor Swift who also provides the harmonies.This is one of the standouts,a seriously in your face kiss-off uptempo that will have you reaching for the repeat button.

Dolly wrote most of the Carols and they are as good as the old classics. Great songs ,well sung by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. Very seasonal . Love it!!!

Now That's What I Call Country

This is a terrific starter to Country/Pop Music. There's plenty to enjoy here, from beautifully moving ballads like "Alyssa Lies" by Jason Michael Carroll and Kenny Chesney's Number 1 smash "Don't Blink" to George Strait, The King of Country, and his career highlight, "I Saw God Today". Not to mention Trace Adkins' Number 1 "You're Gonna Miss This". There's more lighthearted fare to be had from blonde bombshells Julianne Hough ("That Song In My Head"), 18-year old Taylor Swift ("Should've Said No") and Country's current biggest superstar, Carrie Underwood ("All American Girl").

There is no real traditional material here, just Country/Pop (more pop than Shania Twain!) and a great listen throughout.
