When I was a toddler, I remember falling in love with her self titled album. Since then her music has stayed in my heart, although I had never really followed her music for some reason.
I finally bought this album after just having the first album. I was impressed. Usually most artists sell out, lose their message, heart and soul of their music as fame and riches drowns all that is good about it. Tracy Chapman on the other hand, has progressed to carry on making beautiful honest music that can send shivers down your spine.
I've never heard such a rich and expressive voice like this before and the music compliments with it's organic, colourful flavour and becomes an extension of her soulful voice.

This is an album I bought by chance and I was completely amazed its not a more talked about Dylan album. The main difference between this album and his others that he released a few years later was that the songs here are not his except for "Song for Woody" and "Talkin New York". This means that on this album its more about the playing and the feel of the music and voice rather than the lyrics itself. I think this album shows how talented and skillful Dylan really was on guitar and he had pretty much mastered the blues by the time this was out.
I absolutely recommend this album but just don't expect songs with lyrics like "Blowin in the Wind" or "The Times They Are a-Changing", this is simple plain music played from the heart.

What makes John Tams' songs so special? Well, he has a genius for melody, and his words are intelligent and imaginative. His obvious sympathy with the underdog, both past and present, lends sincerity to his singing and provides much original material. But musically, the reason why these are songs are so unusual is that they are obviously written by a singer, not by a guitarist or a pianist. The melodies seem unrelated to any obvious chords. The rhythms are hard to pin down. They change and develop as Tams shortens or lengthens his lines and changes his pace. The musicians have to follow along as best they can (and they do so brilliantly). The folk-rock of the past was generally driven by the rhythm section of a band. Although Sandy Denny ... Read More:

Fans of Eva Cassidy surely won't be disappointed with this album. I've been playing it over and over since I bought it, the simple arrangements and Eva's hauntingly beautiful voice makes it the perfect soundtrack for a relaxing summer evening. Simply wonderful!

The comparison to early Neil Young is relevant, with the songs underpinned by a full-toned piano and vibrant strings. Will even sings in the same key in places but introduces a fracture and vagueness in his voice that give the words a sense of being random thoughts - as a man walks through this world listing the events of his life, putting them in some sort of order. In the title track we hear about a man with a drive for life, "a love for everyone I know" who openly talks to his best friend about suffering from depression. Miserable? No! I found this record life-affirming. There is hope and Will Oldham sings in way that suggests what goes through his mind comes out of his mouth. A real cut above the herd this one.

The high kings, are the all-new all singing irish band, boasting pedigrees from other Irish performers such as The Fureys and The Clancy Brothers. This album contains superbly produced and reworking of Irish traditional songs. The High Kings are the Boyzone or Take That of Irish traditional music. The songs still have the haunting quality from years of memories and playing of traditional music. The DVD is far superior to this compilation, as the 'Kings' stage performance is a very big part of their success. This will appeal to fans of Mary Black, Clannad, Altan and other 20th century Irish bands. I would wholeheartedly recommend the DVD instead but this album is a simple introduction to this new style of Irish pop/rock.

I was a kid when Robin Hood aired in the 80s, and my Aunt bought the soundtrack on cassette, which i promptly stole and took with me to play on my walkman whenever we set out in the car. Something about this music just immerses you into another world, of mystery and magic. You can almost smell the trees of Sherwood Forest and feel the English early morning summer mist against your bare skin. "Lady Marian" is my personal favourite track, but all are brilliant.

Just too mainstream, there are far more interesting things going on in the undergrowth - for a comparison I recommend Nick Worrall. His album is FREE to download as well.
