Lucinda uses her talents to perfection on this one. The songs about loss and lost love make this a true album effort. Learning How To Live digs itself deep into your subconsciousness right away. Wrap My Hand Around That may be a bit streched though. Where Car Wheels could still be classified as Americana, if such classification for Williams mix of folk, blues, rock, and some country is warranted at all, West really finds here on an island by herself. And I'm more than happy to listen to her on my own little reatreats in to good music. Granted, 4.5 stars might be enough. But given the previous reviews I really feel this needs a shot in the arm.

I never watch reality TV and so when I turned my TV over and stumbled upon the Gloria Hunniford Show and saw someone called 'Darius', I had no idea who he was or where he'd come from. He was singing a song called 'Colour Blind' which happened to be his current hit at the time, and a number one. I immediately liked it and thought I would probably like the sound of an album by this guy - and I wasn't disappointed!

There are twelve very good tracks here - catchy tunes with good and clear lyrics. I am not easily sold on anyone who appears on any form of reality TV (it's a cheap and nasty form of entertainment, and is something that amuses people who have too little going on in their own lives) in fact, I find it off-putting ... I read somewhere that once you enter your forties and begin to become a Grumpy Old Person you are much less likely to listen to new music. Since I am in my forties and not quite ready to be a GOP, I thought I would deliberately try something new, and I'm so glad I did because this is lovely! Karen Matheson's voice is gorgeous and evokes the wild beauty of her native Argyll. Most of the songs are in Gaelic and therefore utterly incomprehensible to me but in fact that's part of the charm because you really appreciate the human voice as an instrument.

Telling Stories

There are five tracks (1, 3, 4, 5 & 11) on this CD that deserve to be on a Tracy best of collection. That is enough to make this her best CD. The grade would have been a perfect 5 unless the other songs were good rather than average. For sure she hasn't made anything better after this CD.

Yes, before Robert Plant and Alison Kraus made it trendy, J Paul Jones produced this album of acoustic country style music. I say "country" but it's not that straightforward to classify. Anyway, if you want to hear some well recorded acoustic music you can't go wrong.

What can one say that has already been said by others about the master of electric contemporary folk other than this is album is truly superb with the normal underpinning of RT's gravely voice and incredible mastery of the guitar in his laid back style.

From the opening chords of "Gethsemane" to the closing bars of Happy Days and Old Lang Syne" this album delights not only because one can appreciate the skills of RT and his backing musicians but also because the lyrics of this album make one think throughout.

Listen to the anti fundamentalist polemic of "Outside of the Inside" to songs about lost loves such as "One Door Opens" to "First Breath" As normal with RT he tends to concentrate on what has been lost rather than what has been gained so he can ... Read More:
