Another outstanding work from one our national treasures. There doesn't seem to be a single song that she can't turn her voice to, but particularly outstanding on this album is her version of My Love Came To Dublin & The Old Fashioned Gate, but then I have a penchant for the slow ones, the sadder the better! That said, this has some very sprightly songs on it, which makes it quite a balanced album overall.

I believe a large part of June's success at song interpretation is also to be found in her choice of musicians, who are as equally as deserving of praise for such well-crafted playing.

Proterra

I looked at buying Proterra a few months ago and have to admit was put off by some of the reviews. I finally decided to ignore the critics and take the plunge. I am so glad I did.

Proterra offers everything from the haunting celtic sound of pipes to the toe tapping drumbeat of Toll Dubh and Reitach. From the raw Gaelic tracks the modern rock sound that is Runrig. With regular vocals from Bruce, Rory and Brian this album offers something for everyone. Even "Angels of the Ashes" a piano solo is inspired.

If you are still not convinced then listen to some of these tracks played live at Drumnadrochit (Year of the Flood) then come back to it. This is now permanently in my cd player alongside Everything You See and, frankly, ... Read More:

I can't say I agree with Martin's review of this album - or particularly the concept that the unique style that the Celts fit into is becoming musically dated (sounds like an echo of the same deluded individuals that said guitar-based music wouldn't make it past the 60's!!).

Seed is laced with silkenness and smoothness, it is a pleasure to listen to in a different way to their previous offerings. However, the underlying sound is definately our AfroCelt friends, with energetic beats and reels flowing through the head with more subtlety, but not lacking by any means.

N'Faly's inspired Kora playing and gorgeously textured voice really get to shine on this latest recording, and Iarla shows again his power in his emotive and beautifully ... Read More:

The Time Has Come

This brilliant album marks Christy's return to his roots after his ground-breaking work with Moving Hearts.Songs like "The Curragh of Kildare" hark back to his pre-Planxty days while the heartbreaking "Only Our Rivers Run Free" reflects his growing dismay with the direction in which the Republican movement is moving. "The Wicklow Boy","Sacco and Vanzetti" and "Go Move Shift", however, show that Moore's social conscience is as strong as ever. This is not Moore's best album though, with Lunny's production abandoning the acoustic feel of previous albums. If you only buy one Christy album, you'd be better off with "Live at the Point","Live in Dublin" or "The Iron Behind The Velvet".

This is imaginative, free-spirited rock music at its very best. It sits alongside 'Stormcock' as Roy Harper's trio of classic lps (I'd have the live set 'Flashes From Archives Of Oblivion' as the third). It carries the same lyrical, musical and mystical weight as Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' - released in the same year. I'd give Roy Harper the edge here for the purity of the intention behind this work. An intention that is realised. Very well done, Mr Harper.

Penguin Eggs

I have been immersed in traditional folk song and dance all my relatively short life (23yrs to be precise) and i can safely say that Penguin Eggs is one of, if not the best example of the genre that exists. Nic was and is such an inspiration for myself and numerous others, and this is album is just a fraction of what he achieved, but one listen and your life will be changed forever!

Highly recommended, a true legand.

I dont agree with other review on this and in my humble opinion you are better off buying AN INTRODUCTION TO HARRY CHAPIN on Rhino as it has
all the above plus Coreys Coming and Tangled Up Puppet which are two of his best songs which no collector should be without.

Have many happy memories of his great gigs in London over the years and
especially the RAINBOW concert where he ran off stage and came out the front at the end and shook everyones hand, signed stuff and chatted to us as we were leaving !!

Great guy ... sadly missed
