It is possibly a disadvantage to be an avid fan of the Classic Quartet,but I decided to update my views and try a taste of "modern" Brubeck.I am disappointed.My review is purely personal.Why is Militello rated as a fit replacement for Desmond?.His playing is loud and in places, too raucous.He seems to think that cramming in as many notes as possible into a simple phrase makes it more attractive.According to the liner notes he learned his trade via Desmonds records--he must have a hearing impediment!Brubecks intros are mature,obviously,lyrical,and amusing ,then, in comes the alto sax,ruining the whole ambience of the piece.On"Waltzing"I thought that a tenor sax from a 60s Rock band was on stage.On the upside, Dankworths bass sounded fresh and ...
