Massively recommended. These were Getz's final recordings, three months before his death. A duo performance is never easy. The increased workload must have put tremendous strain on his health but you would never know from listening to this exquisite live double CD. Fourteen tracks, culled from four consecutive nights at the Cafe Montmartre in Copenhagen, show Getz at his most majestic. The wonderful Kenny Barron on piano shows complete empathy with Getz, and the interplay between them is perfect. This is exemplified by the ballad 'First Song'. It is a total masterpiece.

When Mel Torme and George Shearing, friends who recorded together often, performed at the Paul Masson Mountain Winery in 1987, each was at his peak. Torme was then sixty-two years old, but his voice had never been better--he never smoked (unusual in this industry), and his voice was mellow and mature, even better at sixty-two than it was at thirty-two. Shearing, at age sixty-eight, having signed with Concord Records in 1979, was enjoying a renaissance as a jazz pianist, making stunning recordings with Carmen McRae, Peggy Lee, and Mel Torme, among others.
In this vibrant live performance, both Torme and Shearing are relaxed, more interested in communicating with the audience and each other than in special effects and pyrotechnics. ... Read More:
The only thing I will regret in my life is not being able to see and hear this band live in person in London back in February 1972. I had the Decca Phase Four stereo 2 LP set and when I visited Brittan in 2005 I played them again but found the poor balance detracted from the thought of bringing them back with me to Australia and buying a turntable to play them again.
Now this is no longer necessary and it seems with no to do Michael Dutton has cleaned up the often very poor balance Decca went to press with. So much so those of you who have never heard the LP's will just think it's a bit closely miked but it seemed to me it was well over the top of the tape's dynamic range especially the very fiery numbers such ... I used to listen to the original in the 50's in the Sixth Form and later had a cassette copy which was lost in time. Listening to this is like meeting up with an old friend - the memories just flood back.
We always knew that Andre Previn was special, and he has proved it.
A brilliant record, still as good as it was in 1956.

I had heard John Barry interviewed on NPR online in 1998 and he played the theme song to this movie. I was just blown away. I had to download the file, I remember, so I was able to play it many many times, but this was way before mp3 files were popular, so the only time I could listen to it was when I was at the computer.
I thought about it for years, really. Silly, I know-- but I really loved the music and I imagined that I could play it on the piano well if I could just find the sheet music to it, too (I can't play by ear :( ). I looked periodically over the years but could never find it. And, when I actually did find it, I was very confused because I found the OTHER soundtrack-- which was not what I was looking for.
