Over four albums My Morning Jacket have fashioned a sound that embraces widescreen emotionalism with rootsy Americana, pyschedelia and alt-country. `Z` sees My Morning Jacket broaden their influences while retaining the unifying use of reverb that makes all the songs sound unmistakably them now matter how far they stray from the alt-country template. Recorded in a grain silo or not, veteran producer John Leckie should probably be recognized for maintaining the sultry Kentucky mood while Jim James and co. toy with white boy soul (Wordless Chorus), Clash-style punk-reggae (Off the Record) or stadium power pop (Gideon). MMJ's Phil Spector-esque use of reverb affords a cerain abstraction - even distance - to even their most tangential enterprises, and ... Read More:

This is not to say that Marty Robbins did not perform many more and just as great songs. However when you think of ether Marty Robbins or the songs on this album [Gunfighter Ballads & Trail Songs]. As with many I grew up with this album and as one reviewer protests, it is a little unnerving to have the order changed. However I used to skip around anyway. And this is the album to buy for Marty Robbins. You can supplement with his others when you feel the need to expand his collection
It is hard to imagine that you have not heard these songs at some point. So it feels funny describing them to you. These songs are truly ballads. They are not crying in your beer twanging songs. And aside from the country pacing and theme, are close to folk songs. Each song has ... Read More:

The warmth of KD Lang's voice combines with skilled musicians and first division songwriters to create one of the best albums you'll ever hear.
Release Date December 15, 2000
I'm new to this genre and I have got into Miranda Lambert and Gretchen Wilson and although I don't buy his political persuasion, Toby Keith.
I bought West and wasn't impressed but Car Wheels is something else. Maybe because I'm new to this brand of music I'm suckered but I really think that this is such a stand out CD that it merits huge praise. I've heard that it was a perfectionist effort - hence the Pet Sounds analogy - and if so it works. Right in Time and Joy -two very different pices are addictive. Maybe this is a one-off in which case play it to death.

Not much more to add to all the extensive reviews of this particular Neil Young. Readers will be aware of most of its history. Its unavailability in "regular" cd form, until very recently. This rather added to the album's cult status, which contrived to make secondhand vinyl copies seriously expensive. (Up to £100, apparently, through the more "unscrupulous" outlets.)
The cd issue faithfully recreates the original album's artwork, to make a very pleasing package. (Not just a crummy, little booklet.) For me, there are three of my all-time favourite Neil Young tracks. Firstly, "See The Sky About To Rain". Very downbeat, but extremely uplifting. It's followed by "Revolution Blues", which features one of Neil's most effective guitar solos and the succinct lyric "i hope you get the connection ... Read More:

Another Country doesn't actually refer to some kind of re-inventing of Country Music (or Americana in it's other guise) but to the fact that how, in a time of personal turmoil, Tift Merritt emigrated to France. The problems aren't quantified in any great detail, but its clear that the Tift Merritt of her third album is more disillusioned and introspective than the Tift Merritt of her earlier albums.
And whilst one wouldn't wish to inflict such emotional pain onto anyone, it is clear that these problems have gone some way to raising her music up to another level.
There are a handful of up-tempo numbers, Tell Me Something True, with it's Mowton-esque backing is one such highlight, but most of the album is a more subdued affair. It's none the less compelling for all that though. It's an album ... Read More:

The other reviwers really have hit the nail on the head --- this is a masterpiece of a concert from the queen of country music!
Great songs, great performance and the great lady herself is on top form.
This is a real must have for all Dolly fans.
Release Date May 26, 2008
Let's not be too fussy ... to have a largely acoustic live CD by Gene Clark recorded not too long after his most creative period is fine by me. And the sound samples sound OK - if you'd been there on the night with people around you, I dare say it wouldn't have sounded any better.
HiFi buffs are advised to seek out a CD of steam train sounds or jet aircraft taking off instead.
Release Date December 13, 2004
A few dodgy tracks as to be expected on any album, however fantastic songs by the kinks, henry mancini and the police, cake, bob dylan, tindersticks, dominic chianese, elvis costello and casey chambers.
A massive blend of different musical genres that truly is fantastic, only falls short of five stars due to several unremarkable tracks, a perfect companion to the series and a must buy for soprano fans and music fans alike
