For me, this is ryan's 3rd best album (after gold and easy tiger) yet i still give it 5 stars, that pretty much says it all (I'm going to keep writing anyway). For me this was the starting point of better things to come, it is in itself a very good album with songs like 'oh my sweet carolina' and 'come pick me up' being personal highlights, it was a very good debut solo album and probably only comes behind the other two albums mentioned because it is maybe a little harder to get into. I still listen to this album a lot and is very much a must own for any fan of Mr Adams, although with the amount of work this guy releases i understand it can be hard to keep up!

The Louisville, Kentucky band's third full-length is a whopping 75-minute set recorded in a grain silo and positively swimming in reverb. By eschewing modern recording techniques altogether they are taking a big risk on this, their first for a major label, but is with the swagger of a hard-touring band that they silence the doubters. For 'It Still Moves' is an epic take on classic Americana, an unashamed poem to the redemtive power of the guitar solo, sometimes affording some extraordinarily satisfying rocking out. But there are also the swooning ballads in Jim James' heartbreaking falsetto which recalls an alt-country Thom Yorke.
Be it rock and roll or 'twangcore', My Morning Jacket are not simply fetishising musical moods that probably pre ... Read More:

A sublime, captivating, beautifully played record that is totally seductive. Swinging country, jazz and blues; touches of Dylan and reminiscent in parts of Springsteen's joyous Seeger Sessions. Highly recommended.

This, truly, is an amazing record. In my opinion this is the high point of Ryan Adams' career thus far- there was one very, very good Whiskeytown album after this (Pneumonia) and one absolute classic solo LP (Heartbreaker) and many, many quality tunes (Political Scientist,Magnolia Mountain,Nuclear, etc, etc, etc). But a good marker of quality in these reissues is the bonus material-and amazingly, most of it is just as good as the original album. Which proves just how much of a roll Adams was on circa 1997.

At first glance there are only three tracks worthy of note on this debut album from the Eagles; 'Take it easy', 'Witchy Woman' and 'Peaceful easy feeling'. Let's face it, has anyone heard any of the other tracks on the radio ? True, those three aforementioned tracks are excellent examples of the country flavoured West Coast sound that the Eagles so readily grabbed and made their very own with exquisite harmonies rounded off by some very distinctive guitar work - the instrumental break in 'Peaceful easy feeling' being a good case in point.
However, on closer inspection there are a couple of other gems to be found on here. 'Most of us are sad' a beautiful ballad written by Glenn Frey is sung to great effect by the often forgotten Randy Meisner. The song ... Read More:

There are albums that should be included in everybody's collection. Now by this i don,t mean albums that are purely subjective(Though you could say all albums are) . By that i mean the obscure things like Fra Lippo Lippi,s "Songs" or Downy Mildews debut album. Then there are albums like The Bands eponymous second album. True classics ( 45th on Rolling Stones list of the best 500 albums of all time though there are some right clinkers in amongst that lot) universally accepted as great albums by all and sundry.
Released in September 1969 the album saw Robbie Robertson take over the mantle as the groups principle song-writer. For the debut album "Music From The Big Pink" song writing duties had been shared between Robertson and Richard Manuel but there are only three ... Read More:

Kenny is my absolute favourite country artist. He and John Denver are my two heroes and this album was splendid in every way. If you're a newbie to Kenny's music you should pick this one out as it has all the classics.
Recommended to both young and mature audiences, you won't be disappointed.

My fellow reviewers have given you the details, I just advise you to do yourselves a big favour & add this to your collection, I promise you won't be disappointed.

I have been a massive fan of Dr Hook since i was a little child, as has my younger sister. Listening to this CD brought back the great memories i had as we both danced about to "In Love with a beautiful Woman". Even when i listen to it now i can't help but do a little jig, it really is true Dr Hook "You Make My Pants Want To Get Up And Dance"
This Cd is one which can be listened to with the family and friends, i even let my dog listen to it and i'm sure she even appreciates it.
If you haven't listened to Dr Hook before then this CD is a good start as you don't know what you're missing with these funky guys.

This magical recording of Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison is a warts and all live recording in front of several hundred plus prisoners in January 1968. The atmosphere is electric, with frequent shouts and spontaneous applause and whistles from the crowd. Even some of the official prison announcements are left in the recordings.
Highlights are many as Cash has chosen his set carefully with the audience in mind. So '25 minutes to go' (a reference to the electric chair), 'Cocaine Blues' and his own 'Fulsom Prison Blues' are all brilliant performances.
I first heard Johnny Cash through his later American recordings. These are great albums but on the last three or four his voice getting weaker after each album. The difference in his voice here is pretty startling and ... Read More:
