This is definitely my favorite CD to listen to when going to bed, and I mean that in a good way. These songs are so gentle, and it's hard to believe Ryan Adams was like, what, 24 when he put this album out?

This has got to be one of the best CDs I have bought this year. I originally bought it having been a fan of Michelle Branch for years, and was totally blown away by the quality of the music! There are songs for any feeling and mood, the girls' voices are fabulous. Best songs for me are Way Back Home, Rain, Stand Still Look Pretty and Lay Me Down. A Must for any Michelle or modern country fan :)

I bought this shortly after Quarter Moon In A Ten Cent Town, which was the soundtrack to my life for a good while. This album's more downbeat at first but has grown to become "probably my favourite" Emmylou album. Worth it for "Tulsa Queen" alone, my favourite Emmy song (and knocking Madame George by Van Morrison off the funeral setlist #1 slot). It drifts away then comes back to finish the heart off. Anyone unfamiliar with Miss Harris should buy this instantly and be blown away by her voice; songs recorded before I was born to keep me alive. Oh Emmy!

The Last Waltz: Original Soundtrack

Quite simply The Band were one of the greatest Rock N Roll bands ever. This is a recording of their farewell concert in 1976 (at least in the classic line-up with Robbie Robertson on guitar). The Bands music on its own would merit purchase of this disc. They run through a 'best of' set, that as a concert would be hard to beat.

Add to this the guest list, and you have one of the best rock concerts of all time. Van Morrison in his hey day belting out 'Caravan'. Joni Mitchell singing 'Coyote'. Dylan with Robbie Robertson burning incendiary guitar licks behind him. Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Dr John, Eric Clapton... The list goes on and on.

What a fantastic reissue from Raven. Two somewhat underrated albums on 1 CD and Gene Clark's sublime 'Here Tonight' thrown in for good measure. An absolute must for fans of classic 1970's West Coast country rock.

Whilst 'The Flying Burrito Bros' was recorded after Gram Parsons left for a solo career, the wonderfully versatile but low profile Chris Hillman took over leadership duties and contributed some great songs and sweet vocals. Rick Roberts came in on guitar/vocals and on this set contributed his signature 'Colorado' - a lovely rural song with multilayered harmonies that fits this new FBB incarnation like a glove. Despite the title, this is not a bluegrass collection. It contains tracks from four albums (Joshua, Coat of many colors, My Tennessee mountain home, Jolene) that had been previously released in the UK in their entirety, together with various Dolly recordings that had also been released on various Dolly CD's, though some are rarer on CD than others. Taken for what it is, this a great compilation for those looking for some of Dolly's traditional country, but there is nothing new here for Dolly's committed fans.

The bargain store, My Tennessee mountain home, Joshua, Muleskinner blues and Coat of many colors were major country hits for Dolly. In the good old days and My blue tears were minor country hits. In the ghetto was a huge pop hit for Elvis. Dolly's version did better ... Read More:

Wootens new album "Palmystery" is, as all his albums before this have been, a massive, solid display of magnificent and suprior bass playing. He manages to amaze yet again, this time around with a more subtle, jazzy sound and feel, rather than the very funky slapping he is so famous for.

Obviously he still slaps a lot, but it doesn't dominate the sound. There's more playing with the feel, with the soul (if that says anything at all) of the songs on "Palmystery". Furthermore there are some really inspired performances from guesting musicians as well throughout the album. Great solo pieces throughout. My own personal favorite probably being the funky "Left, Right, and Center".

It is a great rock and roll tradition that on being delivered a double album record companies generally argue for it to be edited to a single album and that is exactly what happened here. Jeff Tweedy wanted the double release but, like The Clash before him, at the price of a single album. The record company eventually agreed on the proviso that the band wavered their royalties for the release.

The other great tradition of double albums is that they are generally dismissed as would have made a great single album.
