Seems like Christmas starts earlier and earlier every year, and this year the new albums have already started coming out. "Country" and "Christmas" have always gone hand in hand, and this is Faith Hill's very first album of Christmas music.
There are ten traditional carols, plus the single "A Baby Changes Everything", and the album has a big band sound that will remind you of those old black and white holiday movies that they dig out every single year.
"A Baby Changes Everything" puts the Christmas story in a modern light, beginning:
"Teenage girl, much too young / Unprepared for what's to come / A baby changes everything"
and ending:
"My whole life is turned around / I was lost and now I'm found ... Read More:

There is some very nice stuff on here but there is also a track I believe after some considerable research to be the worst performance Mr C ever put down on tape. Its actually worth getting just for the car crash awfulness. Jackson and Guitar Pickin Man being the best of the bunch. June's raggedy edged deep country voice is a pure joy compared to the plastic divas nashville serves up these days. Love to hear that growl mingling with the sweetness. Johnny is if anything a bit hesitant in his vocalising, compared to other work. If only he had been hesitant however in the cover of Ray Charles' What I Say. The band almost exactly replicates the original version give or take a bit of dodgy keyboard timing, but Cash is singing high! ... Read More:

This was Elton John's third LP and stakes a good claim to being his very best. It certainly represents his peak as an albums artist, being a concept album with no singles. The songs are mostly based around themes of the American West, an obsession of lyricist Bernie Taupin at the time, and Elton rose to the occasion with a consistently strong collection of tunes with a predominantly country flavour, citing The Band as a major influence. The American inflections he has always brought to his vocal style have never sounded more convincing or appropriate, and arranger Paul Buckmaster again comes up trumps with sympathetic settings for the songs. The strings are used more sparingly than on Elton's eponymous previous album, with brass more to the fore this ... Read More:

The only compilation among a gazillion to span Orbison's Sun, Monument, MGM, and Virgin successes is a welcome add to the Essential series that now, post-merger, features RCA & Arista artists as well as Sony's. Roy Orbison is one of my absolute favorites. He simply may be the best rock 'n' roll singer ever.
Amazon UK does well to specify the few re-recorded versions; while the originals should be here, the remakes are a legit part of Mr. Orbison's career. Roy's popularity was at a deeply undeserved lull circa 1987, when David Lynch used some Roy songs in his classic/eerie film "Blue Velvet." In the wake of renewed public interest*, Roy released an LP of remakes called "In Dreams" (Virgin, 1987). It was very well done, an exception proving ... Read More:

For Hank Williams fans, this CD is a must for any collection. All the favourites, just the way we remember them - the way country and western used to be. A pure nostalgia trip through the best Hank Williams had to offer. A tribute to a man we all loved and miss terribly. Thanks for the memories Hank!

and they absolutely rocked. We loved the entire gig. They walk modestly onto stage and just started playing instead of the usual triumphalism you get from so many bands. They played almost all of the songs listed here, plus some Kiss numbers that I didnt know that well. Consummate musicians and modest too.

Brenda Lee began her career, aged just eleven, in 1956, but did not have a British hit until 1960. In total, she had twenty-two UK hits between 1960 and 1965 but she had many more than that in America. Generally, the British public seem to prefer her up-tempo rockers while the American public seem to prefer her ballads. I am an exception to the general rule, being a Brit who likes her ballads best, although I enjoy her rocking songs too.
While many classic tracks are missing (for example, I want to be wanted, Emotions, Break it to me gently), this is only a budget-priced album and it does contain all of Brenda's British top ten hits. The biggest of these, Speak to me pretty, was never released as a single in America although I can't think why - it is ... Read More:
