As a huge BNC fan, I find this fifth album a bit of a mixed bag. Happily, Beth's voice is returning to its former glory after dipping a bit in Deeper Still (understandably given her health - but then the sheer musicality of some of the songs on DS more than made up for it). But whereas each of the previous four albums had unique musical identities, this one doesn't. If I had to sum it up, I'd say it seems to be a collection of all the songs they couldn't squeeze onto the first four, plus a few others.

One of BNC's qualities I most admire is how her songs and arrangements never show all the cards in the first verse/chorus: you always have to listen to the entire song; either for the lyrics, the descants, the musical embellishments, ... Read More:

This one of those albums that creeps up on you and catches you unawares. On the first listening you think, well, that was all right. But pretty soon you're thinking it's as good as anything DBT have done. And on each subsequent listening there's something new, something you didn't notice before because there's so much other stuff going on.

That's the way it went down for me, anyway.

Stylistically DBT never deliver the same package twice running. Take two adjacent songs - Marry Me and My Sweet Annette. Both matrimonially themed, the former could have been written by The Faces and performed by The Stones. and they absolutely rocked. We loved the entire gig. They walk modestly onto stage and just started playing instead of the usual triumphalism you get from so many bands. They played almost all of the songs listed here, plus some Kiss numbers that I didnt know that well. Consummate musicians and modest too.

I saw this artist on "Later" and was immediately struck by her talent, charm and, of course, the quality of her songs. I got her brilliant "Keep Your Silver Shined" album, which features the songs she'd played on the show, and an import copy of this album at the same time.

Originally released in 2003 this album made it into Rolling Stone's Critics Top Albums of that year. Believe it or not this is Devon Sproule's third album(although the first two were released under the name "Devon"), which makes "Keep Your Silver Shined" her Fourth.

This is a high quality album and quite different to KYSS(nice acronym!) it might be said to be a more straight forward singer-songwriter effort than her most recent work. The opening track had me hooked ... Read More:

Okay, it's not audiophile recording quality and yes from time to time he drives his voice to where it really should not be - but NONE of that matters! It's a sad but beautiful experience. A life unfulfilled - and played out in front of a tiny audience. Buy it while you still can. I suspect this is a limited release.

Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's short story is one of the greatest movies of all time, and a major contribution to it's success was Thomas Newman's atmospheric Oscar nominated score.
The overall feel of this set is melancholy and thoughtful, a perfect description of Tim Robbin's central character Andy Dufresne! However, both the 'Stoic Theme' and in particular 'End Titles' are two of the most noble, uplifting and memorable pieces of music ever written for the big screen. Both are regularly used as backing tracks in trailers for other films (the trailer on commercial radio for Brokeback Mountain being one example).

The other reviwers really have hit the nail on the head --- this is a masterpiece of a concert from the queen of country music!
Great songs, great performance and the great lady herself is on top form.
