very dull, and he can't even sing. Has a very ordinary voice, no range or emotion. I would echo a previous comment about how this "artist" was considered for an award, it's utterly unbelieveable.

Any album from Kathy Mattea is solid class but this album is her best to date. Very simple but played and sung with great depth. This is certainly going to be my most serious contender for album of the year so far. Simply beautiful I hope it gets the success it fully deserves. Even if you are not a fan of Kathy Mattea (and you should be !) give this alabum a try. Now if only she comes over to this side of the pond and lets us hear this set live....heaven....been too long since I had the pleasure of seeing her live.

Now, following the success of O brother, we have this amazing collection of 23 bluegrass gems culled from the Warners archive. You might look through the list of artists and think that some of them aren't bluegrass, but all the tracks included here qualify. In some cases, the chosen track may be the only piece of bluegrass they ever recorded, but if that gets the music to a wider audience, the bluegrass specialists will reap the rewards eventually - and some of them (including Ricky Skaggs, Delia Bell, the Cox family, Randy and Earl Scruggs) are included here.

The Hollies are often overlooked in favour of The Beatles and The Kinks - true they didn't write all their own material and they followed trends rather than set them - but the bands melodic brand of harmony driven, guitar power-pop definately deserves reinvestigation. Lead by Allan Clarke and Graham Nash, The Hollies scored hit after hit through the mid to late 60's and even enjoyed belated chart action with the gorgeous 'Air That I Breath' in 1973. That their influence can be heard decades later with the likes of Teenage Fanclub, Dodgy and latterly The Feeling, is testiment to the quality of the singles compiled on this collection. Quite simply The Band were one of the greatest Rock N Roll bands ever. This is a recording of their farewell concert in 1976 (at least in the classic line-up with Robbie Robertson on guitar). The Bands music on its own would merit purchase of this disc. They run through a 'best of' set, that as a concert would be hard to beat.

Add to this the guest list, and you have one of the best rock concerts of all time. Van Morrison in his hey day belting out 'Caravan'. Joni Mitchell singing 'Coyote'. Dylan with Robbie Robertson burning incendiary guitar licks behind him. Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Dr John, Eric Clapton... The list goes on and on.

I just had to write about the marvel that is "I Dream A Highway" the last song on this cd, if there's one song you hear in your lifetime make it this one! it achingly beautiful, introspective, spine-tingling - simply put Brilliant!! worth the price of the cd alone and it's a song that i have been listening to non-stop all month!!

The cd in general honestly is brilliant! but Gillian really has outdone herself with "I Dream A Highway"!

HIGHLY recomended!
