I love Reba, I saw her in London some years ago and she was fabulous. I love the camp duets she's done with Linda Davis and it's a pity there's not one like that on this album. When I first got the record I went straight for the duet with Justin and was immediately disappointed, as you will be; but, when you've heard that song twice more you'll love it; it's an understated masterpiece; Reba tells the story and Justin lets her do just that, what a great collaboration. The album takes a few listens until you realise that it's all there. The Kelly Clarkson song is just amazing, you'll struggle not to laugh at one of the lines in the Trisha Yearwood, it's pure country trash, but perfectly done. The Carole King reminds you what a great singer that ... Read More:

When this album was released, Steve was acclaimed in some quarters as country music's version of Bruce Springsteen - high praise indeed. Subsequent albums have shown that comparisons with The Boss are spot on, including their political beliefs, but Steve has largely abandoned country music in favor of rock. He has never forgotten his roots, as he showed on The Mountain, an album that he recorded with bluegrass musicians, but he has never recorded another album quite like Guitar town.
Steve wrote or co-wrote all the songs on this album, which contains two major country hits (the title track and Hillbilly highway), both up-tempo rocking songs, which are typical of the album's style. Steve shows that he can do ballads too - just listen to My old friend ... Read More:

This debut album is a real surprise as it is not only a folk album but has a lot of other influences such as Jazz in "Only One Way" and "Harder to Walk these days than run"
Other tracks are more poppy and have American influences such Alanis Morissette
In particular "Four Strong Walls"
Other tracks are more folky in the original sense of the word but none descend to the point of becoming archetypal Scottish or Celtic folk (not one mention of slaughtering English on the album). In none of the tracks does she over do the use of traditional instruments such as the fiddle.
A very strong debut by an artist whose further releases I shall look forward to.

Do I not like this CD. She puts on a grating voice which is combined with a strange recording balance to put me right off. And anyone who can sing 'From a distance' about the Christian God knows nothing about Him at all.

This CD is fantastic - a return to form for the First Lady of Country music. From the opening track, the lyrics and music flow easily, and are all likeable, 'catchy' and heartfelt.
Ofcourse they are stand out tracks - the first single, 'Better Get To Living' but also the wonderfully up-lifting 'Jesus & Gravity' and the great 'Shinola' (a track where Dolly gets mad and even!). Plus an amazingly original cover version of 'She Drives Me Crazy', where Dolly add's her own touch of 'crazy'!
Most of the tracks tell a story and so many, it seems, come - possibly - from Dolly's own life experience's, especially the title-track 'Backwoods Barbie'. And top marks have to be given for the art-work of the album - Dolly looks 'the part'.

An album of pure pleasure. Pleasure of those who made it and pleasure to all of us who enjoy it.
Knopfler's discretion is one of the secrets of quality of the album.
Very, very good.

The 20-track "Chronicle" retrospective is by far the best single-disc Creedence compilation out there, and this second volume makes the "Chronicle" package even better. There are no hit singles here, those were all on vol. I, but plenty of great album tracks, and while few of them are as immediately recognizable as "Proud Mary" or "Bad Moon Rising", the overall quality of this material is very, very high.
Creedence put out some fabulous double-A-sided singles, but they weren't just a singles band...there were excellent album tracks stacked away on all of their LPs, and these are (most of) the best of them. Acoustic folk-rock, tough, swampy blues-rock, rockabilly and country, it's all here, and songs like the blistering rocker "It Came Out Of The Sky", the country ballad "Looking ... Read More:

Julianne was best known as the x2 champion winner on Dancing With The Stars in the USA,but she can leave that behind her now as she's now a bonafide country singer!
Produced by David Malloy(who's worked with Reba McEntire) this is an excellent collection of very slick, polished Pop/Country music. She also has a stronger voice than her counter-parts Taylor Swift & Kellie Pickler! From her first hit That Song In My Head,to the catchy You,You,You and the cracking uptempos About Life and Hello, this album will have you singing along in no time.
She also includes some fantastic ballads like the sensual Hide Your Matches, the excellent message to teens Jimmy Rae McGee(about not been pressured into sex when you're not ready) and the very touching Help Me,Help You(about alcoholism),she delivers ... Read More:

This has got to be one of the best CDs I have bought this year. I originally bought it having been a fan of Michelle Branch for years, and was totally blown away by the quality of the music! There are songs for any feeling and mood, the girls' voices are fabulous. Best songs for me are Way Back Home, Rain, Stand Still Look Pretty and Lay Me Down. A Must for any Michelle or modern country fan :)
