There have been Eagles compilations before but this by far the best. It contains all the songs that could be found on earlier British (Very best of) and American (Greatest hits) compilations, plus a few songs never before included on any of them. And everything has been digitally re-mastered, sounding better than ever.
All the famous songs are here including Desperado, Take it to the limit, Lying eyes, Hotel California, Tequila sunrise, New kid in town and Best of my love to name just a few.
Aside from the obvious songs, you also get Please come home for Christmas (a song that has since become a standard), two songs from their Hell freezes over album (Love will keep us alive and Get over it), their recently recorded ... Read More:

It is time for the nature of music reviews - at least for popular music - to change. There's no need any longer to read a review to help you decide if you want to buy an album. All of these tracks can be heard on various places online - either in part or in full, often in different arrangements, sometimes in video - and the lyrics too are freely available. So you can listen, and read, before you decide whether to buy. The traditional reviewer role of helping you decide whether or not this music will be for you, is redundant. It's time for 'reviewers' of popular music to become critics and commentators, to promote discussion rather than offer guidance. With that in mind, here's Johnny...
Very much part of the current British ... Read More:

I've got a lot to thank Jools Holland for, as I first saw Brandi on one of his "Later with Jools" shows. I have to say that I was blown away by the sound and the performance, so much so that I bought this album straight away without reading any reviews, which is unusual for me.
Having read some of the reviews before writing this, I realise there are some very eloquent writers out there who know what they are talking about. Therefore my advice to any readers of this review is to only look at the review rated 4 or 5 stars. I have played some of this album to some of my friends and they have gone out and bought it as well.
There are so many outstanding lyrics in this album that I wouldn't know where to start my preferences, ... Read More:

Well I have to admit I had completely lost the Silver Jews before earlier this year when I saw them put in a magisterial performance at the Primaverasound Festival in Barcelona. Much of the set comprised of this record. And what a record it is. Somewhere between Kinky Friedman and Nick Cave, David Berman takes his place amongst the pantheon of inspired lyricists. Every song on this record has something going for it. It is one of those great efforts that rewards you with repeated listenings. The lyrics are picturesque and witty, the melodies are beautiful and the overall execution is nigh on perfect. Its the ultimate modern country record. It manages the rare balance of being incredibly smart whilst still amazingly soulful. This is one record that will not ... Read More:

The warmth of KD Lang's voice combines with skilled musicians and first division songwriters to create one of the best albums you'll ever hear.

I bet this was a fantastic live show - shame it sounds so flat on the CD!
Unlike the other reviewer I came to this recording as a fan of Willie Nelson. I think Willie sounds pretty good on the whole - I just wish there was a bit more of him! His regular harmonica buddy, Mickey Raphael, is the real star of the show for me - his soloes shine above everyone else!
The first two tracks, "Bright Lights, Big City", and Willie's own "Night Life", are the highlights for me. The lowest points being the two tracks associated with Hank Williams ("My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" and "Nobody's Business"), which, for me, don't seem to work in this jazz setting.
All in all, it's not a terrible album but certainly not one that will much ... Read More:

Theme Time Radio Hour is one of the most original and enlightening music programmes on the air. It's brilliantly presented by Bob Dylan who plays an eclectic mix of often obscure records all linked by a theme. Dylan's knowledge of American popular music is immense and each programme is peppered with his unique combination of wit and wisdom. So, Ace Records are to be congratulated for issuing this double album containing 50 wonderful tracks of the kind of music to be heard on TTRH. The only thing missing is the man himself but that shouldn't deter anyone from acquiring this marvellous and wide-ranging selection of great music expertly compiled by Ace.

martha wainwright proves on this album that despite all of her vaunted background she is a true original. the songs show great craft, especially BMFA which is perfectly written. and her voice is a wonder. it has the flexibility of mary margaret o'hara's voice and the emotional vastness of jane siberry but is also something completely hers. its really exhilirating the way it can just take off in the middle of a song and go wherever it likes yet still make complete musical sense.
for many years i've been grieving the fact that mary margaret o'hara hasn't been making music but with this album the gap is filled. but she isn't a copycat. like any true talent this musical vision is completely martha's own. and it seems to have sprung complete from her in ... Read More:
