Probabably the first use of the term Americana was used to describe the music and songs of the Band.Psychedelic music had morphed into acid rock ezcess and Prog Rock in England. The only way to go was backwards. The rather ridiculous criticism of country music was made null and void by the Band who were equally influnced themselves by what has now been called Roots Music
With Dylan as the way in the 70s would become the era of the Band.
In this country the biggest hit could have been The Night they drove Old Dixie down but made by Joan Baez.
Thus the Band were known as album artists who would bow out with The Last Waltz.
A recent covermount CD Across the Great Divide is of music they influenced

Probably the finest female artist of all time, this CD must be the bargain of all time! Patsy could sing absolutely anything and make it sound her own, but this collection, in superb sound, highlights her greatest hits and is REAL country music.Everyone should have at least one Patsy Cline CD in their collection. If you don't have any then this is the one to buy, and at a bargain price! Absolute magic!

This is a great album. Mary Gauthier (I've been told it's pronounced 'Go-Shay') has a hard edge to her vocals - she reminds me in some way of Lucinda Williams, with a little bit of John Prine thrown in for good measure on her earlier albums! For me, the best tracks on this CD are 'Snakebit', 'Can't Find the Way' (about the New Orleans floods?) and 'Please'. But there isn't a bad track on this album - and the sound and production are perfect. Mary's voice is the main instrument, but accompanied by some great guitar playing. And I'm convinced that the drummer on 'Last of the Hobo Kings' is drumming with his hands on bare skin rather than drums! This is a fantastic album, and at the price it's a bargain. Don't hesitate, just buy it!

Probably a record to change my life, this one. I got it way back in 95 when it came out, cos I heard Pearl Jam were on it. I was a massive Pearl Jam fan at the time. I can barely bring myself to listen to them now. Nevertheless, this record introduced me to Neil Young and inspired my musical tastes, my guitar playing and songwriting in so many ways.
I don't think I've heard chord changes as big as the ones on these songs since. The guitars sound HUGE, and the songs are so smple, yet as with most of Neil Young's work, they are highly emotional.
Now, I always assumed that the lead guitar on this record was played by Mike McCready, until that is I got the Merkinball EP which was released by Pearl Jam as a companion piece ... Read More:

More often than not 'Soundtrack' means simply all the songs in the movie. More recently it has meant 10 odd tracks by the latest 'hot' artists shoehorned into a movie to make a bit of extra cash (Blade II, Swordfish the list goes on). This, however, bucks the trend so emphatically it seems churlish to put it into the 'Soundtrack' category.
Trent Reznor has crafted a soundscape of par excellence, covering the emotional highs and lows seen in the film. In some respects this is a greater creative work than the film itself as it fuses so many influences, tied in with some of the finer pieces of dialogue from the movie. From the chanting Indian to 'S**t list', this album takes you through a journey. A journey through the minds of Mickey and Mallory. ... Read More:

From the very first track - Dueling Banjos - to - Earl's breakdown - through to - Fire on the mountain - and ending with -Rawhide - the Banjo playing is of the very highest and you just cannot stop the foot tapping. A real GEM
Release Date January 29, 1994
I can't think of a single superlative that isn't redundant when describing this album. Quite simply, it's as close to perfection as I think it's possible to get. If you're looking for music to restore a sense of balance and proportion in the world, this is the one.
Margo's voice (one of the sexiest and most expressive I know) combines beautifully with the instruments, at no point is anything overdone, no note is superfluous. Don't be swayed by its categorisation as 'country': this album is about as far removed from duelling banjos as it's possible to be. If you buy just one album this month, buy the Trinity Session - you won't be disappointed.

With two good albums under his belt, "Guitar Town" from 1986 and "Exit O" from 1987, "Copperhead Road" was Steve Earle's 3rd record for the MCA stable and he had clearly hit his song-writing stride. I remember when I bought it at the time that it sounded just HUGE - and although he was considered a `country' artist, "Copperhead Road" was a really a blasting rock 'n' roll beast of a thing with some country tinges thrown in for good measure. Even the front cover and picture of him on the rear smacked of `attitude' - a snot-nosed punk on a Harley eyeing up your underage daughter with less than moral intent. From the opening track it reeked of bar-drenched alcohol and chemical substances that weren't exactly Milk of Magnesia nor Aspirins. In other words, it was a great big ball ... Read More:

One of the better CD's made of Connie's hit recordings - each one is a Gem all the memories flood back to the carefree, happy age of the rock era. Just Buy it, and you will hear all those favourite melodies to 'Bop' along to. Great!

Blitzen Trapper are a rare breed, they are prolific in producing high quality, inventive and catchy songs. Super Furry Animals spring to mind as a band with a similar rate of quality productivity. Following on from 2007's Wild Mountain Nation, there is a more evident influence of American alt-folk and alt-country. This is to be applauded as Eric Earley has penned some of his finest material to date.
This album is consistently brilliant from start to finish, with stand-out tracks being too numerous to mention. My personal favourites include the title-track 'Furr', 'Sleepy time in the western world', 'God + suicide' and the fantastic 'Black River killer', the latter a track that I'm sure Two Gallants wished they had wrote!
