When this album first came out two of my friends bought it and played it constantly and I remember thinking it was good at the time.I recently watched a programme about Elton John on the TV and a snatch of a track from Tumbleweed Connection came on.For old times sake I bought a copy expecting to enjoy it as I had all those years ago.The sad fact is that it has not aged well and I now think the album is awful.Everything about it is bad.The lyrics,Eltons singing and the musicianship are all dire. After years of listening to real American music this attempt to beat them at their own game fails miserably.I would not recommend this album to anyone.

There are many CD hit packages floating around by this prolific artist, but this charted recording (#13) is better than most. It offers 30 of her bestselling singles and is a wonderful piece of nostalgia set to CD. The sonics are fine and the packaging is very appealing and should be part of any fan's collection. Connie has stated she preferred her Lp work over her hit singles, but for the American audience, they prefer the hits. And this is one of the better collections released. If you cannot find her comprehensive singles collection "Souvenirs" (a 4 CD box set that includes all her singles for MGM from 1955-69) or the recent 50 (songs)two disc "Gold", this is the disc for any music lover who appreciates not only a pleasant trip down memory lane, but singing at it's ... I know that the overwhelming consensus of opinion says 'Big Pink' and 'The Band' are The Band's best two studio albums, but 'Stage Fright' is my favourite. For me, it's a warmer album with a greater r&b element and the players sound as if they're enjoying what they're doing. I am not bowled over by 'Big Pink', an arid, lumbering album that owes much of its reputation to the Dylan connection (Basement Tapes is a great album though). 'The Band' is a classic and features some stand-out songs, whereas 'Stage Fright' is all of one quality, but it isn't as carefree. 'Time To Kill' and 'The Shape I'm In' float in a way nothing on those earlier albums does. 'Just Another Whistle Stop', the title track and 'The Rumor' all have arresting, dramatic qualities. Each track is distinct and strong. ... Read More:

'washington square serenade' represents change on all fronts for Earle. There's a change in mood from the last few intensely political releases. This is a more personal album, reflecting his own life, a move to the big city, married life, more settled, more satisfied. Yet Earle has always been a liberal artist favoured by urban americana fans, rather than heartlands country. Musically there are changes too: electronic beats, world music. From Steve Earle, Mister Organic, Mister American Roots. Who'd have thought? Yet this too reflects Earle's move to New York, as kick off song 'Tennessee Blues' waves "Goodbye Guitar Town", in 'Down Here Below' a NY celebrity hawk whose position at the top of the food chain serves as a metaphor for the city's lords of the universe, contrasts with the lot of ordinary ... Wow. what a hit, as a previous reviewer said this is ok if you are trying him for the first time. This guy has that smooth old style country voice with just enough of a new edge to make him contemperary and sexy!!!!
If you have never heard of him or not to sure think of a cross between Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks. This album has a great mix of smooch alongs, soulful, thoughprovoking and just foot tapping greatness.

I am a longstanding fan of Irish Traditional Music and so, when I was standing in a Birmingham record store quite a few years back and my ear caught the sound of "Happiness", I immediately asked the assistant the name of the band. I couldn't believe my ears at the clear and clean perfection of the sound. I've known this CD for a number of years and yet it always sounds virtually as fresh as the first time I heard it, very unusual for music which can be easily remembered - at least for me!
One of the clever things about this CD is the way the softer songs are interspersed with the more boisterous numbers. The first song `So Long So wrong' is a kind of compromise, but the lively songs, complete with Ron Block's fast banjo picking and (mostly) Adam Steffey's mandolin, are `No Place to Hide' ... This is not just a great Christmas album, but as Mindy Smith's third release, it's her best yet. New in 2007, I could not get enough of it during this past Christmas season. In addition to her sweet voice which sounds amazing on the familiar tunes, her original songs are maybe the best songwriting she's done yet. The simple and slightly jazzy arrangement of "What are You Doing New Year's" is just perfect. This get's my highest recommendation.
