A nice CD with some great songs. One missing from the list however is 'Leaving On A Jet Plane' so if you want this and only plan on buying one John Denver CD then this isn't the one for you.

CDs beat vinyl anyday.How else would you get the extra tracks-the unissued stuff?
As for The Band doing covers-why not? Everybody should do covers and many Band songs have been covered by others.
The set kicks off with what sounds as if its going to be Frankie Ford's Roberta-which turns out to be the famous Frogman song of the 50s.
Nice touch with the Harry Like Theme-you can see how this led to the melody of The Last Waltz.
Read the booklet's essay on The Band and you learn that Robbie Robertson was into the Polish composer Kzrkrystof Penderecki-the others passed on that though!

If you like, say, Glen Campbell, Boz Scaggs (a la 'We're all alone'), perhaps a bit of John Martyn - that sort of thing - possibly with a bit of blue grass guitar mixed with an almost norweigian skiffle type feel, then you will love this, actually even if you don't, you'll love this anyway. from the rolling moments of the first few bars right til the end, coupled with the everso slightly twangy, but heart warming (and very different) vocal, it is a gorgeous adventure into Gordon's world. I also love these albums and like one of your other reviewers think Judy possesses one of the most beautiful and crystal clear voices of the 1960's - way better than her colleagues from the same era. Wildflowers is the purest album but I do differ with your second reviewer however. I find myself brought to tears each and every time I hear two of her own songs - SkyFell and especially Albatross. Each a deeply touching song - full of yearning, quiet sadness and wistfulness. Please listen....

This is one of those albums that stays in your CD player for weeks after you buy it. The structure of the four part "Blind Leaving the Blind" is astounding. The whole album feels like it will never stop moving - the songs melt into each other. I can't describe it! If you liked his Nickel Creek stuff and his other albums like "Deceiver" and "Not All Who Wander Are Lost" you'll love this :) If you've never heard him before start perhaps with Nickel Creek's "Why should the Fire Die?"

Cracking stuff :)Buy it and support one of the greatest living artists of our time!

The Dirty South

To be honest, I bought this CD because I liked the cover (sad I know lol)I knew that this was a southern rock band, but this realy took me by surprise. This starts off in fine form with the track where the devil don't stay, and to be honest there isn't a single filler track on this great CD. Best tracks for me are the superb Sands of Iwo Jima, The Day John Henry Died, Carl Perkins Cadillac, and my fave Danko/Manuel, I cannot recomend this CD highly enough :)

Rockabilly Legend

All of this series on Sun rockabilly artists are great (Sonny Burgess, Billy Lee Riley, Charlie Feathers, etc.) but Warren Smith is one of the great forgotten masters of the genre. As well as great rockers, there are some beautiful Honky Tonk songs, and a few like Black Jack David or Red Cadillac & A Black Moustache that don't quite fit either the rock or country tags. Anybody interested in rockabilly should own this (& also the Sonny Burgess one at least).

I love Martina McBride-so naturally I cannot recommend this hits collection enough!!
It contains everything from her early big songs like Independence Day,My Baby Loves Me,the powerful A Broken Wing,Safe In The Arms Of Love and her first no.1 Wild Angels, to her more contemporary songs like Where Would You Be,Concrete Angel,I Love You,When God Fearin' Women Get The Blues,Blessed and her excellent socially conscious hit Loves The Only House.
If your new to country music or to Martina then this cd is a must to start you off.You will not be disappointed.
She released this cd in 2001, and believe me the hits haven't stopped here.Since this album she's made some more fantastic albums and is still notching up more huge hits to add to her next collection....

This is the most essential of a list of essential Ry Cooder albums. If you only ever buy one of his CDs, make it this one.

I wore the vinyl out and had to buy it again and then I had to buy the CD. Someone borrowed the CD, they moved and I never got it back so I had to buy it again.

The playing is immaculate, it is simply wonderful music. The Mexican influences are great and really bring an extra dimension. This is the culmination of everything RC did before and overshadows everything he has done since.

Buy this album.
