Alison Krauss I guess is one of those singers you either love or hate. She has a tonal quality that for me epitomises the very best in Bluegrass. This album is no exception. The sheer quality of her voice is at time unbelievable
and whilst it is true she veers away from pure bluegrass - her strength is that she can carry this off with huge credibility. I bought this album not only because I love Alison Krauss - but I heard her wonderful duet with James Taylor of "hows the world treating you?"- and simply had to have it! This is an old song recorded by Elvis in his early days - and hearing Alison and James brought back all those memories of wonderful songs, and meaningful lyrics. I also adore her version of "I'm just a country boy/girl" formerly recorded ... Read More:

I always had a problem with Country as a youngster, growing up as I did in a working class English town and hooked on Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Sabbath. Though I could listen to Johnny Cash, some of the female country stars of the time (Tammy Wynette etc) really grated on me.
I bought this collection on a whim while working out in California a couple of years ago. This was the first time I really listened to her as a recording artist in her own right, though I was familiar with her work with Gram Parsons and her excellent backing vocals on Dylan's Desire.
I must say that this album blew me away. Her voice is totally exquisite and it is little wonder that her talents been in such demand over the years. Though The Grateful Dead first introduced ... Read More:

Yet another greatest hits album, but what the hell, this contains every decent track he has ever recorded. Many collections are padded out with gastly stocking filler tracks, not this one. I must admit that I really liked at least 20 of the tracks on this. Enough said.
Release Date July 20, 1984
A very listenable and relaxing album, one that has grown on me over time. The songs fit together very well, in particular I like 'New Kid In Town' and 'Pretty Maids All In A Row'. All of the songs are meaningful, and I'm still getting more from this album each time I listen to it.

It has taken me a while to come around to Sarah's music. Perhaps this is because I was not mature enough to appreciate it when she first started out (I was a teenager when this album was originally released). My tastes have changed over the years and I am glad that I didn't buy this until I was 'ready' for it. FUMBLING TOWARDS ECSTASY is a beautiful album, but as another has pointed out, there are moments that the pain drips from her words.
People on Amazon have starred this as her masterpiece - because this is the first and only album that I have by Sarah, I cannot comment on the validity of this, but what I can say is that the amount of talent she has is undeniable. Her lyrics are intelligent and can almost read like poetry. She also has an amazing voice - shown to great effect ... Read More:

With two good albums under his belt, "Guitar Town" from 1986 and "Exit O" from 1987, "Copperhead Road" was Steve Earle's 3rd record for the MCA stable and he had clearly hit his song-writing stride. I remember when I bought it at the time that it sounded just HUGE - and although he was considered a `country' artist, "Copperhead Road" was a really a blasting rock 'n' roll beast of a thing with some country tinges thrown in for good measure. Even the front cover and picture of him on the rear smacked of `attitude' - a snot-nosed punk on a Harley eyeing up your underage daughter with less than moral intent. From the opening track it reeked of bar-drenched alcohol and chemical substances that weren't exactly Milk of Magnesia and Aspirin. In other words, it was a great big ball of rockin' fun - and that sense ... Read More:

I bought this album when it first came out last year. The CD works well, with some great songs and a fresh, lively sound. I prefer it to her first album, and the DVD is a quality bonus, an interesting and inspiring video of the recording. The beat box demo prompted my son to buy one and incorporate it very successfully into his own stage act! The new album is due out shortly, but you'd be a fool not to get it at this price.

I'm a massive Steeleye Fan and enjoy nothing more than listening to their finest tracks. Generally, with a compilation like this, you can never be sure if you'll end up loving everything and this is by no means an exception. However; the less good tracks on the CD are very few! "To Know Him is To Love Him" for instance is probably the least enjoyable (let's face it; it's just not Steeleye Span like they should be) and "Now we Are Six" is very much an acquired taste. Nevertheless, there are a great number of less famous gems, such as "Royal Forester" and "Dark Eyed Sailor". "Saucy Sailor", "Thomas the Rhymer" and "Drink Down the Moon" are again well worth a real listen, and help make this one of the best Span compilations ever!
