CDs beat vinyl anyday. How else would you get the extra tracks-the unissued stuff?
As for The Band doing covers-why not? Everybody should do covers and many Band songs have been covered by others.
The set kicks off with what sounds as if its going to be Frankie Ford's Roberta-which turns out to be the famous Frogman song of the 50s.
Nice touch with the Harry Like Theme-you can see how this led to the melody of The Last Waltz.
Read the booklet's essay on The Band and you learn that Robbie Robertson was into the Polish composer Kzrkrystof Penderecki-the others passed on that though!

To be honest, I bought this CD because I liked the cover (sad I know lol)I knew that this was a southern rock band, but this realy took me by surprise. This starts off in fine form with the track where the devil don't stay, and to be honest there isn't a single filler track on this great CD. Best tracks for me are the superb Sands of Iwo Jima, The Day John Henry Died, Carl Perkins Cadillac, and my fave Danko/Manuel, I cannot recomend this CD highly enough :)

This is the most essential of a list of essential Ry Cooder albums. If you only ever buy one of his CDs, make it this one.
I wore the vinyl out and had to buy it again and then I had to buy the CD. Someone borrowed the CD, they moved and I never got it back so I had to buy it again.
The playing is immaculate, it is simply wonderful music. The Mexican influences are great and really bring an extra dimension. This is the culmination of everything RC did before and overshadows everything he has done since.

Should be called 101 Country Greats LIVE. This must be the worst country music box set ever released onto the unsuspecting music fan. Nearly all the tracks are pretty poor live versions of some great country songs! The artists appear to be the original people but not the original versions. There is no warning on the box or discs that the music is live or on Amazons description. I don't get fooled very often buying music online but I was by this load of rubbish. Be warned!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of all the members that belonged to the Byrds at various stages, Gene was without doubt the most talented when it came to songwriting. He was essentially the creative force in the early Byrds, even though Roger McGuinn got the limelight for being the "Leader" of the group.
I cannot understand how this album did not make it big time when it was originaly released. It is equal to anything put out by Dylan, Neil Young, Lennon or Lou Reed. The truth is that many of us realised what a great artist Gene was, only after his untimely demise. Of course some of us were not even born when this came out!
It is a joy to listen to this masterpiece lying down in bed with the headphones on, so that the rest of world is put to one side for one moment. You listen ... Read More:

Since the early 1970s, most of us have been waiting for Stephen Stills to release anything approaching the quality and consistency of his 1970 solo LP or the first Manassas album in 1972. The Columbia offerings were poor fare and his contributions with CN&Y generally unremarkable. So, having waited so long, I ordered "Man Alive" not really expecting much.
WOW! What a treat! Stills is back to his best.
And I mean that. For 35 years the "Love The One You're With" album has been one of my all-time favourites. Even so - in all that time - to me it tailed off after "Go Back Home": the second side (other than "Black Queen") always became just a bit formulaic. Similarly the fourth side of "Manassas" didn't really have the legs. Listening to "Man Alive" I suddenly ... Read More:

Okay, so we had to wait six years since Nick Lowe's last offering on the wonderful Convincer. I am pleased to announce that At My Age is worth waiting for. Hope For Us All and The Other Side Of The Coin benefit from Lowe's life experience and vocally he is spot on. I Trained Her To Love Me kicks women well below the belt. Better Man gives us all, especially us men, hope for the future. Love it.

PLANET WAVES is an important album in Dylan's career, thought not necessarily an essential purchase for any one but the fans of the man. While his best albums are undeniably important records in the pantheon of the rock canon, PLANET WAVES is not among that elite. But first, let's review examine Dylan's history around this time.
Dylan had been fairly quiet since the late 1960s, and while he had released three albums (one, NASHVILLE SKYLINE, with a significant hit, "Lay Lady Lay") SELF PORTRAIT was seen by most as a critical blunder, and while NEW MORNING was hailed as something of a return to form, NM did not capture the wildness and overall sound of his earlier material.
The first major event occurred in 1973, when Dylan was chosen to record a soundtrack for ... Read More:
