Very much a change of style for one of my favourite bands, but for the best. Perfectly arranged songs and playing by Jeff Tweedy and his group.
Release Date June 03, 1996
If you want a great intro to Dylan, this is a pretty good collection. Be aware, however, that one of his finest, spiky, bitter and twisted songs, "Positively 4th Street", ought to be on here (it's on the vinyl) but isn't. It was a single release from 1965, and still gets airplay from the better DJs; if you like the rest of these songs, and you hear "4th Street" on the radio, you'll want to get it too. Sadly you won't find it easily; it's on the later "Essential" compilation, and it's on Biograph, but that's it, CD-wise. So compare the tracklistings carefully before you choose.

... if you like "Comes a Time" and "This Note's for You" and are not upset by a rather glossy but faultless country production. For me this holds true and this album will probably get it's due amount of spinning in my player. Yep, Neil may have though that country music is a bit shallow and his songs about his wife being an angel, his son growing up to fast, or California being such a beautiful home state to him really don't go on great emotional explorations. But you'll wish he would have teamed up more with Waylon Jennings so brilliantly do their voices match. Clearly recommended. But with the bar raised so high elsewhere in his career, giving 5 stars here would be inflationary. It's definitely much better than American Stars and Bars, arguably minus the hurricane.

Notorious Byrd Brothers is perhaps best known for the internal rivalry between the band members and the sacking of David Crosby mid-recording. This is the album where individual differences found their voice and the band started to fall apart (although the seeds were sown on the previous album). Notorious seems to benefit from this fracturing of the band's spirit, it is an album of immense beauty; it is melodic and warm, yet clothed in a more wary and questioning outlook on the world. The melancholy that i argue exists in most of the band's work has come to the fore, and prevails in an album that is uneasy and moody; it's relaxing yet slightly dark, innocence ('Dolphin's smile') does battle with scepticism ('Draft Morning', sleepy melodies are punctuated by guitar feedback ... Neil Young for me has to reign alongside the master music makers of this century or any other, his distinct vocal voice sets him apart from just about anyone.
The weld album taken from the live concert is an utterly superb album that features some very powerful songs that have made Neil young the performer he is. Dylans blowing in the wind has got to be just about the best version I have ever heard of this song. Rockin in the free world, well a classic song that still sends shivers up my spine.
Weld is a true music lovers album, full of power and sentiment, in my humble opinion, one of the best live albums ever made. Neil young, well, a master musician and a master song writer. brilliant stuff.

Lady Antebellum are on fire right now in country music and with this excellent no.1 debut you can easily see why!!
They begin with their first superb hit Love Don't Live Here and the hits just keep on coming. With some fantastic catchy uptempos like their current hit Lookin' For A Good Time and Slow Down Sister these songs will be stuck in your head in no time. There's also the great female empowering song Long Gone which Hillary mainly sings on her own and Home Is Where The Heart Is which has a real summer sound to it,including a lovely fiddle arrangement.
There's also some beautiful ballads including the gorgeous All We'd Ever Need where Charles and Hillary sing as a duet(this really shows off their fantastic voices)and Can't Take My Eyes Off You.
This is a top notch debut from ... Read More:

I am probably more of an alt country/Americana fan - I think most of the best songwriting is coming from that genre right now as radio-friendly country gets blander and blander and more pop-like. But you cannot deny that Tim McGraw consistently delivers good quality songs with excellent value for money album, brilliantly produced. There is very little filler here and although he is sounding a little more morose than usual, even the really downbeat songs like 'Between the River and Me' have catchy hooks. 'Suspicions' was the song that first caught my imagination, great tune, great rhythm, great backing. Nowadays there is not one song that I would skip over. The obligatory duet with his wife Faith Hill continues a long series of beautiful love songs and I think this is possibly Faith's best vocal performance ... Read More:

This compilation contains all the tracks (plus a few extras) from the following albums: 'Heart Like A Wheel' from 1974, 'Silk Purse' from 1970, 'Hand Sown...Home Grown' from 1969, and 'Linda Ronstadt' from 1972.
The Heart Like A Wheel album is where Ronstadt and producer Peter Asher first used the formula of great song selection (from such writers as JD Souther, George Lowell, James Taylor,) and tasteful singing and playing, with arrangements by Andrew Gold. I still think Heart Like A Wheel and the following three albums (Prisoner In Disguise, Hasten Down The Wind, Simple Dreams) are some of the seventies' best song interpretations. The other three albums contained here are not as polished and are more countryish. However, they are enjoyable and a good example of the then nascent LA country rock scene. ... Read More:
