All this is great stuff; 5 stars and an "essential" purchase.
It's pointless to compare Judee Sill with other artists, her vocal phrasing and poetry were subtly different from her contemporaries. Listen to "Jesus was a Cross Maker" and you'll know what I mean.
I had the privilege of seeing her live in a tiny club (the long lamented Van Dyke in Plymouth) and can still remember the gig despite the over 30 years that have passed...

Right folks, if you're starting a band this is how to play a concert. Before you assemble in the hall, get a CD player and put this album on. Listen and listen good. Right, now see if you are up to the task... The Band always were; this album displays them in their finest form.
Great singing, great playing and - most importantly, and unforgettably - great songs.

"Country Rock" might be the term used on the back of this, but what it actually is is great driving music. Members of the band form other well-known groups/musical phenomena - Loggins and Messina springing happily to mind. This is a wonderful way to hear the band's best numbers, especially if you're totally new to them, as I was, until about 6 weeks ago. Not only that, but you may just find it the ultimate in feel good music. It makes you want to put the hood down on your car and step on the gas. Oh, and I defy you not to love Rose of Cimarron. Glorious stuff.

The fact is there's nothing to stop any non country artist recording an album with Nashville musicians.Or any country star recording music from another field. There's enough bluegrass interpretations of the Beatles. And if Ringo Starr and Vera Lynn can record country its not exactly a closed shop.
Elvis Costello for intance was a fan of the music and that's reason enough .
At the time he was seen as a punk because that's the time he was launched.
The arguments from the snobs go on forever and in the case of this particular album the fact is the producer Billy Sherill had nothing good to say about it.
Its like the way these same snobs argue against black people cutting country music-it just doesn't go anywhere as criticism.
But really Costello-the man most unlikely ... Read More:

Kasey Chambers has the kind of clear and piercing voice that one might expect for a female Country singer, yet this album will constantly surprise you. For a start this is NOT strictly a Country record at all as on a good few of the tracks there's not a slide guitar in sight! Opener 'Cry Like A Baby' is probably the nearest thing to a hit single on the album and get's proceedings off to a great start. Kasey's voice at times sounds like a mature woman and in others a little girl. This is a most charming attribute and the whimsy and fragility in both her voice and her lyrics will get to you at times throughout this record. This is especially the case on the title track, an acoustic, dreamy, reflective and thoughtful song which, if you happen to be a single guy like me, will have you wishing you could ... Read More:

Absolutely Amazing!!!! I cant really think of any other way to describe this album. This is Melissa at her truest.. The lyrics are painfully honest and the beats are fantastic. My personal favourite is Silent Legacy, but there is not one song on this album I do not like. I Love them all!!! This is one of those albums that just will not age. Definately an album you'll find yourself singing to time and time again. To Melissa fans: Well, need I say more? This is a definite must!!!! To anyone curious to hear what Melissa Etheridge is all about: This is THE album to show u exactly that. Buy it!! You definately wont regret it!!!

This record is much better than the reputation that proceeds it. It all stems from way back then, june 8, 1970, when it was released. A lot of people were releasing the best albums in their entire career but Bob had already passed the peek to be fair but in retrospect this is a very good album compared to anything released today. I believe everything Bob Dylan has said about this record when he found out it only sold 200 000 copies instead of the usual 1-2 million is made up. I think the truth is that Bob Dylan had Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby and maybe Frank Sinatra etc as heroes and the way he sounds on this album would have been the future if not for the poor sales.

This post-humous collection of Gram Parsons recordings was originally released in 1976 - 3 years after his death. 9 tracks are Flying Burrito Brothers recordings from early 1970 and 3 tracks were recorded during the "Grievous Angel" sessions. The 3 later tracks are duets with Emmylou Harris.
There are no Parsons originals included. The Burritos were planning to record a whole album of "pure and honest" country music. Most tracks are pleasant, but nothing extraordinary.
Parsons had a good voice for country music, but this collection does not give the answer to how he could become a legend in country-rock. There are some fine vocal harmonies with Chris Hilmann and with Emmylou Harris things rarely go completely wrong.
Of the Burrito songs "Sing Me Back Home", "Your Angel ... Read More:
