Release Date February 14, 2005
Clever, witty lyrics delivered in an oh so soothing fashion: the fact that this band are not more widely known is a sad indictment of the music buying public, but the loss is theirs and theirs alone as they are missing a real gem.
Release Date August 11, 2003
I was facing a long car journey with a friend a few weeks back. Luckily he had 2 recent purchases with him - No Other and Pacific Ocean Blue (Dennis Wilson). I have to say that the miles flew by listening to both those wonderful albums. There is a reason why No Other has consistent 5-star reviews here and Pacific Ocean Blue is not far off. The mention above of Gram Parsons'"Cosmic American Music" sums it up. This album really does capture the essence of what can make American (West Coast) music great.

'On The Border' is the dark horse of The Eagles' recording history, featuring just one of their best-known tracks. 'The Best Of My Love', however, is not representative of the album as a whole. Like 'Take It Easy', this smooth, lilting song was the candy used to interest the casual listener. The band's strength was less in writing great songs, though there are several of those, than in their execution. 'Already Gone' is a good song made better by fine harmonies and an ability to rock without going at it too hard. It's a track that exemplifies their ability to appeal to a wide-ranging audience. The title track and the eulogy to James Dean rock harder, while 'Midnight Flyer', with its fast banjo, leans more toward country. 'You Never Cry Like A Lover' is a slow, ... Read More:

The Dead had been know as the house band for Kesey's acid tests. Now here they are playing Red-Kneck music?? Well, not quite - the Grateful Dead were purveyors of American music, be it folk, blues or whatever. They did, however, always retain the essential element for any group of musicians - they always sounded like the Grateful Dead. Having heard Working Man's Dead, I went along to see them in London (at the Lyceum) hardly expecting to hear songs from this album played live - Uncle John's Band and Casey Jones were not songs I expected to hear them play live but there they were, and with near perfect (for the Dead) harmonies.
This is one of the essential GD recordings, along with... well, that's always a difficult one with so many being essential.

If you like 80's synth pop you'll like this set of songs. I bought this album when it was released back in 1986 and have waited years for it to appear on CD.
As you would expect from one of the greatest voices of all time, the singing is first class.
Although this is not Nash's best solo album, the 10 songs here are very strong indeed,"Innocent Eyes" "Chippin' Away" "Sad Eyes" and "Glass and Steel" being highlights.
Release Date April 29, 2008
One of the signs of a truly great album is that most of the tracks could be considered for single release - this is one such album. Dwight demonstrates that he can rock hard but he also includes some outstanding ballads. He wrote or co-wrote most of the songs. Although Dwight has shown a liking for recording covers as well as originals in his career, there is only one cover here.
The country hits were Turn it on turn me up turn me loose (a brilliant up-tempo song), You're the one (a nice love song), It only hurts when I cry (co-written with Roger Miller who is famous for King of the road), The heart that you own (an aching ballad) and Nothing's changed here. The first four make up the first four tracks on his greatest hits collection, Last chance for 1,000 years but ... Read More:

Can't believe no-one else has bothered to review this so thought i'd do it!
Probaby the best Jayhawks album, fantastic harmonies, great uplifting lyrics and fine musicianship make this Alt countryRock album a great feel good album.
The Jayhawks offically split this year (06) but key songwriters Olsen and Louris have been touring as a duo with the promise of an album and i for one based on this album, can't wait!

Rarely has music moved me as much as Emmylou Harris' last two albums, "Red Dirt Girl" and the sublime "Wrecking Ball". Listening to these albums became almost a spiritual experience, the music is that good; beautiful, uplifting, heart-breaking. So it is with a great deal of disappointment that i must admit just how inferior Emmylou's latest offering is. The problem isn't however with the song writing, but the over-precious, over-the-top production, which is at best too glossy and at worst plain cheesy. It's such a shame because these unnecessary flourishes really take from emmylou's distinctive delivery and fine songwriting. There are still many moments to admire here, like the lovely 'i will dream', the june carter/ johnny cash tribute 'strong hand' and 'lost unto this world', and the highlight ... Read More:

With tickets for Shakeys forthcoming London concerts in my possession these live recordings fill me full of incredible anticipation.I can honestly say that some of his greatest songs come over better live than recorded. The electric version of Pocahontas is superb and sets the tone for a great record.
