Having cut his musical teeth as Lead Vocalist and Keyboard Player in the British Blues Band JELLYBREAD (they did two albums for the Blue Horizon label), Pete Wingfield then went into touring (Van Morrison and The Hollies) and session work. He contributed to B.B KING'S "In London" in 1971, KEEF HARTLEY'S "Seventy-Second Brave" in 1972 and one of my favourite LPs of the Seventies "Let The Days Go By" by BRYN HAWORTH in 1974 (see separate review). He then finally realized a lifetime dream by signing to Island Records (there's a Sue single on the left side of the album sleeve as a homage) - bringing us to this dinky little September 2008 CD reissue which centers around his only album and hit single for that world-famous and much loved label.

I like a variety of music from country through to thrash metal. Enjoy listening to Roy Harper and Bob Dylan so I thought I would give Neil Young a try. Knew nothing about this album before I bought it but the gravely, drawn, folk/rock melodies are simply excellent. I definetly will be purchasing more.

This interesting album of collaborations includes tracks that are available elsewhere. By no means amongst Emmylou's best albums, Duets nevertheless contains some real gems and provides a pleasant listening experience.
The uptempo track The Price I Pay sees Harris accompanied by the Desert Rose band, and is followed by the old classic with Gram Parsons, the timeless Love Hurts. Roy Orbison provides the male vocal on That Lovin' You Feelin' Again, a mellow middle of the road number, more pop than country, that works surprisingly well.
We Believe In Happy Endings (with Earl Thomas Conley) is a traditional, slow country ballad, whilst Thing About You (with Southern Pacific) is quite catchy with a lilting beat. Star Of Bethlehem, ... Read More:

This is an absolute steal: At 19 tracks it contains the best of Crowell's Warner years at the beginning of his solo career. The compilers also understood how much of a superior debut "I Ain't Living Long Like This" really was, something Crowell couldn't follow up without a noticeable dip in quality. This classic debut album is here in its entirety, albeit in different sequencing, followed by hand-selected five tracks each of the two more patchy follow ups which makes them seem better than they were. Most of these songs were made famous by others like Emmylou Harris, Bob Seger and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, but Crowell's rendition of his own classics should be in any serious collection of country rock.

Linda has recorded many different styles of music including folk, country and old standards from the Great American Songbook. She has proved her brilliance at all of them but, ultimately, her place in music history is assured by her pop-rock albums of the seventies. Of those albums, this is my favorite although Prisoner in disguise is a close second.
By the time Linda recorded this album, she had decided who her favorite songwriters were and what type of songs she was happy with. So here you get a Buddy Holly cover (It's so easy), two Warren Zevon songs (Carmelita, Poor poor pitiful me), a J D Souther song (Simple man simple dream) and an Eric Kaz song (Sorrow lives here) – all brilliant songs from sources that Linda had used before. ... My favourite album. Dylan switches from high octane throwaway "let's be deliberately obscure and consolidate the fan base" lyrics to go with the Country flow. Ultimately it is the honesty, witness 'I Threw It All Away',that shines through and dedicates every track a classic. Essentially not a "If you buy just one Dylan album...", rather one for those who appreciate a slowing of the heatbeat and a trip down the winding lane possibities of contemporary music.Buy that brass bed.

WOW!!
The first but definitely not last album of Ms Etheridge's that I have gotten my hands on. I can't recommend it enough.
Each note seems to seep out of the speakers and dive into ones very soul stirring emotions hidden away. The album to me seems to follow the story of a painful break up and the ensuing road to recovery...
The album begins with `Lover please' which captures the immediate aftermath of an unexpected break up....an imploring yet angry and hurt plea to return home without any of the soppiness most songs of this nature tend to take. One of my favourites!
`The prison' takes a softer more melodic tune. Those first hard moments of leaving after realising its over but not being free of the pain and emotions yet....which comes ... Read More:

I bought this because I wanted to hear this astonishingly beautiful music all over again. I still have the original vinyl album ( which I bought when it was first released) up my loft but I thought it was time I had the music on CD. I wasn't disappointed although I wouldn't have noticed it was a "remastered" version. It does sound very similar to the original mix, in my opinion. I have really enjoyed hearing this music all over again. As for the "extras" which are thrown in, well, they are a decidedly mixed bag... - although Weir's demo of "Weather Report Suite" is interesting in its own way. His ( overdubbed?) acoustic guitar work is really excellent.
Another of these "free extras" is a 17 minute live version of " Eyes of the World" which is a decidedly ropey ... Read More:

Go on, I bet you thought I made that up. Not so.
The Grateful Dead are an interesting idea(l) of a band much given to `groovin' as is their wont, and gettin-on-down at EVERY ROCK FESTIVAL OF THE SEVENTIES, looking every inch like a live advert for `Head and Shoulders'. Aah.. That`s much too easy. Let's take a closer look at what we're dealing with.
To start with, `Blues for Allah' is a VERY good title. Let's us know that despite all the hair and denim, we're not dealing with mugs here. The temptation to scoff derisorily is over-whelming, these trippy types are usually good for some shallow, simple-minded fun, at the expense of their lifestyles and ideals, but if we're talking music (and I will be in a minute!) it just isn't possible to poke too much fun at `BFA' because it's ... Not many live albums work well, the music on them being either pale imitations of the originals, or so overdubbed that they sound identical to the originals.
This is an exception to the rule, and as a real bonus is a showcase of a blues singer and guitarist at the top of her powers vocally and musically.
She obviously enjoyed herself at the concerts recorded, and so did the backing band and guest artists, who are superb. I have little to add to the glowing reviews already given for this album other than to say BUY IT WHILE IT'S STILL AVAILABLE!
